[00:00:00] Jess: Welcome to the Yap Corner, a podcast for dog parents by dog parents.

[00:00:11] Madison: We're your hosts, Madison Bennett and Jess Ramberg. Two dog obsessed humans who know that life is just better with a pup. I'm Madison, your Yes, girly sourdough baker coffee lover and who just loves yapping about all my

[00:00:25] dog activities

[00:00:26] Jess: and

[00:00:27] I'm Jess.

[00:00:27] fueled by ice cream. Always planning my next adventure and currently in my, let's try everything once. Hobby era. So this isn't your typical dog podcast. We're not here to talk about dog training or dog nutrition.

[00:00:40] Just real talk about the everyday chaos and joys of life with a dog.

[00:00:44] Yeah. So grab your pup, grab your coffee or your beverage of choice and let's yap about it all.

[00:00:50] Let's just get

[00:00:51] Madison: into it. Let's give the audience some background about who we are, who's your dog, and

[00:00:55] Jess: uh, a little bit about background about yourself. And I'm Jess. I grew up in the Midwest, moved to Southern California, so now I live in North County San Diego. I work in the sports entertainment space. I do a lot of freelancing, contracting stuff.

[00:01:09] So my day doesn't look very typical. It's a little bit of everything I've mixed in my love of I. The dog world and corgis and events and sports and entertainment and kind of become my own boss. I'm Madison. Like I've

[00:01:24] Madison: said, I am also in Southern California, so we live very close together. I am originally though, from Florida Keys.

[00:01:32] No, I did not go to school. On a boat. Typical question. Yes. I'll probably be the only person you meet from Key West. Now I work in sustainability consulting, so I work a lot on green building certifications. Nothing to do with this, but I do love my dog, clearly my dogs, and uh, that's kind of how we connected.

[00:01:51] Tell us about. Apollo and Gemini. This is Apollo. Apollo is a five-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He came from Kansas, actually living life on a farm, but now enjoys the beach life. Um, he loves cuddles clearly. Um, he also loves going to the beach. Swimming, playing fetch. He's got a little bit of anxiety, you know, here and there, but, um, he's such a good boy.

[00:02:15] We love him. This down here is Gemini. Clearly. She's a long girl. Uh, she's a cardigan Welsh Corgi. Um, she's actually a SoCal, girly herself, loves agility, running, playing. She has so much energy. She's so brave. So we just kind of do everything with her

[00:02:32] Jess: and she loves it. For those that aren't watching on YouTube or on video.

[00:02:35] Madison's dog Gemini is like extremely long, so she's laying at her feet on the bed, like half of her body, on half of it off. She's a long girl

[00:02:45] Madison: with very big ears too. I will say

[00:02:47] Jess: probably the biggest in the world. I have a Pembroke Wesh Corgi named Ziggy. She's five years old, little petite gal, sassy, independent.

[00:02:56] We call her like a cat dog. She's your typical, just she's got her own mind and we'll cuddle you when she wants to cuddle. But she's adventurous. She's always down for. Traveling. I've been traveling with her since she was four months and she loves to run and play and she's obviously become best friends with Apollo and Gemini.

[00:03:13] That's a little bit about us, but maybe we can talk about how we all started. I mean, all of it is because of the dogs, our friendship, our connection, everything. About five years ago, so it all started when we did get Ziggy and I started an Instagram for her and I was scrolling, looking for. Local dogs in the area to become friends with and, 'cause we had just moved to the area and I saw what now is Apollo on his Instagram at the same dog park at our apartment?

[00:03:45] And I said, no way. So of course, not even thinking twice, I DM Apollo's account from Ziggy's and say, Hey, do you live at x, Y, Z apartment? And of course you responded right away being like, yeah. And said, okay, let's have a. Like a dog play date, meet up at the apartment dog park and the rest is kind of history.

[00:04:08] But that's my perspective. What was your side

[00:04:10] Madison: like I said, I am a yes girl. Um, but Ziggy's also five years old, a little younger than Apollo. And when I first got him, I didn't know any other dogs and no one to play with. Of course, you know, we need to socialize our dog. So when Jess dmd me. I was like, I don't know.

[00:04:27] This is crazy, but of course I'm gonna do it. And my husband was like. Uh, you don't know this person. She's a stranger. Like, are you gonna get murdered? And I'm like, nah, it's fine. Like, she looks, she looks nice, like she has a corgi and she has a dog. How crazy could I be? Yeah, I love dog people. How crazy could you be?

[00:04:46] Now we're kind of both crazy dog people, which is Makes sense. And um, yeah, but

[00:04:50] Jess: we're like. The cool

[00:04:51] Madison: dog parents. Yeah. That's like what we like to tell ourselves, but yeah, no, we are, we met up at the park and you know, um, the US is kind of history, but Apollo and Ziggy, um, had so much fun playing and we just kept going with play dates and doing more activities and adventures together.

[00:05:10] And

[00:05:10] Jess: yeah, our friendship really, I mean, again, centered around the dogs. We go, go to the farmer's market. We would go to dog events, we'd go to the dog beach. We started becoming friends with other dog parents and then Covid hit.

[00:05:23] Madison: Yeah.

[00:05:23] Jess: And that kind of forced everyone into their little covid pods. And we were with our partners and other friends and life just.

[00:05:33] I think that's where connection really got deep because I'm sure many of you have felt through Covid, like those friendships, even though it was the one, two years, it felt like four or five years of friendship that you connected during that time. Real quick too, like so

[00:05:50] Madison: like Jess said, we started going to a lot of events, going to the dog park 'cause that was really the only chance to get out and do something 'cause you were otherwise stuck inside.

[00:05:58] And that was the only place we were allowed. Without a mask really. Or, or with a mask. But, um, we spent a lot of time getting to know other dogs, building kind of this community. And then at that time, our partners and us started hanging out, and then we started building a community with other parents that.

[00:06:16] Or friends that weren't parents or dog parents, um, and hung out with them. And that kind of like made our friendship blossom. I mean, since then we've been in each other's weddings. Uh, we've traveled a lot of places together. I. We just kind of do everything together now and, and it's amazing to see how it's like evolved from our dogs to now us.

[00:06:37] And, and it's funny 'cause even today when you came over, I was like, Hey, first thing would be to say hi to Ziggy, but my first thing is, hi Jess. And then I looked down, I'm like, oh shoot. Evant said hi to Ziggy like by the beginning days. That's. My main go-to. And so it's, it's uh, it's been fun to watch you go

[00:06:55] Jess: and that's not an unoriginal story for many people.

[00:06:58] Mm-hmm. So many people that we've interacted with, like together or on our own, you hear how you've become friends through the dogs and that's a beautiful thing. And I think those are some stories we can't wait to dive into. And, and that's. Kind of what we're here for.

[00:07:15] Madison: I think we should get into a little fun game.

[00:07:17] I love playing a game always. And so we're gonna play something called the Zoomie mode. So for those that may not have dogs or, or want a dog, um, zoomies are when your dog kind of. Just goes in full zoom mode, um, or goes fast and sprinting around the house. So this is gonna be our version of that rapid fire, um, question here.

[00:07:39] And I, I have some questions for you, so you ready? Yeah. Let's get into it. First question I have is, uh, what's one thing people say about your personality?

[00:07:49] Jess: Um, I'm a lifelong learner.

[00:07:52] Madison: I love that actually. Do you have three emojis? F that would describe your dog.

[00:08:01] Jess: Three emojis for Ziggy the sparkle emoji, the ice cream emoji.

[00:08:09] And the racing flag emoji.

[00:08:11] Madison: I can't wait to dive into that a little bit more later. Um, specifically maybe the ice cream and the racing flag, I mean to give of course, hazard sparkle, what's a place that you'd love to travel with your dog? Greece. And I guess last question is what's a dream guest for the podcast?

[00:08:32] Jess: I would say I have a couple. The Doges Paris Hilton. And Jake Shane.

[00:08:39] Madison: Okay.

[00:08:40] Jess: Alright. I guess I'm going to ask you questions now. Thank you. If your dogs had a job, what would their job be?

[00:08:48] Madison: Oh, this is a funny one. Okay. I'll say Apollo would work at Foot Locker. Should I dive into it or give it some time? Okay, we'll talk about that later.

[00:08:59] Gemini would be a hunter.

[00:09:01] Jess: Do you spend more money on yourself or the dogs? All right. As of recently, the dogs. And a follow up. What's the most ridiculous thing you've bought your dogs? A full on agility set

[00:09:14] Madison: thinking that we're going full agility. Love

[00:09:16] Jess: that. Okay. I'm gonna do the same for you. What are three emojis that describe each dog?

[00:09:21] Madison: Apollo is definitely a tennis ball, little smiley face that looks a little cuddly with the three hearts around it, a swimming emoji and Gemini. I think I've referred the to this already, but her, it would be the ear emoji, lizard, and um, a cow. Love

[00:09:42] Jess: it. Okay. Same thing for you. Who are some of your dream podcast guests?

[00:09:49] Madison: All right. Hammy and Olivia with their cats. 'cause I also have two cats vintage culture, um, who has a Corgi and KLO Kardashian.

[00:09:59] Jess: Those are good guests. Let's jump into kind of our why for the Yap Corner and how it came about and kind of, I think for me to start off, 2025 right off the bat is an amazing year for us so far.

[00:10:14] Mm-hmm. Not to like brag about it, but I think a huge step where. Leaning into is saying yes to the things that we've. Dreamed about our goals, our big picture ideas that we have out there. I mean, we both became business owners. We are excelling in work and of course going through all the ups and downs of life, but we're finally just saying yes to let's make this happen.

[00:10:42] We

[00:10:43] Madison: love talking all the time to each other. Like I said, we're best friends so it makes sense. And so we would spend our hours on the phone kind of just talking about what we have upcoming, some plans, what we're doing with our pets, what we're not. Um, and so this is kind of a chance for us to really share that with you all as an audience too, of things that we're doing that might inspire you, but also just to, again, that live.

[00:11:09] Lighthearted fun moment, a talking

[00:11:12] Jess: about our dogs and our pets. We don't have this perfectly planned. I think it's gonna be a work in progress. We're gonna evolve, we're gonna figure it out together. We really wanna build and engage with the community of the dog parents because we know they're out there and we're part of them.

[00:11:27] So we're really looking forward to kind of just building. Up on that and having this space and this platform for it.

[00:11:33] Madison: And I think like obviously this is a podcast for dog parents by dog parents, but that's really not our whole identity. Like, although it may seem like it. Um, so we really want to just share.

[00:11:45] Our life and, and our real identity of who we are and, and chat about that together. Let's talk about what people can expect

[00:11:53] Jess: from the podcast.

[00:11:54] Madison: Obviously, we're real life humans, so there's gonna be some laughs. There's gonna be some probably chaos. The dogs are sitting so nicely here, but they might jump down.

[00:12:03] Who knows? Gemini might. Start licking us. I don't know really anything could happen. There might be some tears shed, um, but really there's unlimited possibilities and this will be kind of evolving and growing. We

[00:12:16] Jess: created

[00:12:16] Madison:

[00:12:16] Jess: form where you can yap it out and it's on our. In our Lincoln bio on our Instagram and our TikTok, which you can find at the Y Corner pod.

[00:12:27] And then we have our YouTube channel as well. So, oh my gosh. Uh, if you can hear that Gemini is drinking from the water. So I mean, who doesn't love a little asmr? Yeah.

[00:12:39] Madison: We needed to give the dog some water too. 'cause they're always thirsty, so. Yeah, they're tired. Yeah. Oh, oh. Big stretch. If you don't say big stretch.

[00:12:49] Straight to jail. Straight to jail.

[00:12:52] Jess: But also we will, like you said, this is evolving in progress. Our episodes maybe will vary from week to week. It might just be us. Um, well, I think majority of the time it will be us and I think we would love to bring on guests in the future. We'd love to be on site. Live at events interacting with dog parents, so kind of a mix of how it would be formatted.

[00:13:15] But typically it's gonna be here in our studio, AKA Madison's house, a k, a Madison's office, and it'll be a week by week. Every Tuesday morning we'll drop a new episode and. We'll kind of just go from there

[00:13:31] Madison: and you can also write to us at hello at the yap corner podcast.com. If you wanna share any stories or again, if there's anything you wanna see, um, or you just wanna send us a picture of your dog or again, some life advice.

[00:13:45] You wanna get a dog and you wanna ask a question. It's really endless.

[00:13:49] Jess: Forgot to mention that. That form where you can find in our bio, the link is meant for. Asking questions. If you have event, if you wanna have like a event session, if you have some advice, if there's a guest you want us to reach out and bring, bring on the show or talk with.

[00:14:07] So that kind of form can be utilized to. It could be your personal diary. Yeah. You can just prevent anything to us.

[00:14:16] Madison: But like Jess had alluded to, we might be at a future event. Uh, we do have a very busy month ahead of us, so I know the first thing that's kind of coming up for the both of us is that is.

[00:14:31] The mo cow. You bored? She's bored. Do you wanna come talk? You wanna talk about it? You wanna yap about it? So you might find us an event. The first thing going on is we're gonna be doing a little road trip, so get ready. Um, you can find probably some videos and clips of that happening live. We will be driving to St.

[00:14:50] Louis, uh, where we'll be taking part in Cho Fest and I know. Jess has a really fun event partnered up for that.

[00:14:57] Jess: We have a company called Little Stumps Racing, and we host and coordinate COR Corgi races across all different sports organizations, teams and leagues from NFL Football to college basketball, college football.

[00:15:10] We just, we did a spring baseball game, so endless possibilities. But we've partnered with Cho Fu to run a Corgi and dog race at the event. So we'll be on site there as a vendor. And you're also coming as a vendor. Yeah.

[00:15:26] Madison: And I do think there's tickets still available. Yes. Um, I know that they've been promoting that, so definitely come out.

[00:15:33] And again, it's all dogs, so.

[00:15:35] Jess: Yeah. And Chong Fest is a dog festival and you have Hammy and Olivia and Maxine, Chris and Brian. So it'll be a fun event, but it's gonna be

[00:15:44] Madison: really fun.

[00:15:45] Jess: Back to you as a vendor. I know.

[00:15:46] Madison: Yeah. So, uh, we are also gonna be there as a vendor. So I own Stumpy Bean Coffee Co. So again, for my coffee lovers, uh, we sell package whole beans and ground coffee.

[00:15:58] We ship nationwide in the US We're gonna be at Chunk Fest selling some coffee, some cold brew, and some drip coffee. And. Uh, some of our packaged beans and, and so it's gonna be really exciting, really fun. The dogs are getting to come with us, hence why we're driving. Um, so really looking forward to that event.

[00:16:17] And then I know shortly after that we have another event, corgi Nationals, taking pla place where we will also be selling some coffee, but more so importantly, having fun with the dogs. Again, open to everyone to attend a super fun event where they have vendors and they have Corgi races, so it. That's a really important

[00:16:36] Jess: event.

[00:16:36] Corgi Nationals is a hit 'cause you've got a hundred. A hundred Gemini. She is just staring at us from the corner.

[00:16:45] Madison: Here we go. Good girl.

[00:16:48] Jess: All right. Sorry. Little intermission there. We had to deal with dog situation, which I don't think is gonna be uncommon for us.

[00:16:55] Madison: Yeah.

[00:16:55] Jess: We will have to stop and pause and. You

[00:16:58] Madison: know, have fun with the dogs in the studio.

[00:17:00] Those that are not watching, uh, Gemini just jumped up onto Jess's lap and now as being a wig of worm, but she doesn't know what she wants and she just, you know, wants some cuddles

[00:17:11] Jess: back to kind of our events we have coming up. Corgi Nationals. You'll be a vendor there as well. That's run by Kelly and Dan with Soquel Corgi Nation.

[00:17:19] They put on Corgi Beach Day, corgi Nationals, a handful of other events. Really fun and Corgi Nationals. You've got a hundred dogs racing one champion. You've got all these heats, all these vendors. Kind of just fun under the sun. So yeah, I'm excited for

[00:17:33] Madison: you and I think we'll talk more about that in future episodes too, just about those events and, uh, again, other dog events happening around the country, really.

[00:17:42] Um, because we, we see a lot that happens and a love a lot that we would love to attend. So our hope is that we could share that with you too, and you all can attend that. And we have our

[00:17:51] Jess: friend anniversary coming up. Oh, that will be five years. Yeah. That's crazy. Yeah. Uh, dog Mom day. Dog Mom Day, I believe is in May as well.

[00:18:00] And Mother's

[00:18:01] Madison: Day.

[00:18:01] Jess: Mother's Day. For those

[00:18:02] Madison: that celebrate.

[00:18:03] Jess: Yeah. We've got some, yeah. Some fun travels, personal travels, and um, yeah, just a setup. We'll definitely have

[00:18:10] Madison: to do something fun for our friend anniversary though. Yeah, I'm exciting. Absolutely.

[00:18:13] Jess: So just setting up for a fun summer. Yeah. Future topics and things we wanna have on the podcast.

[00:18:20] We'd love to have just like fun segments where, you know, dog park confessions, um, a bone to pick, chew on this. Pup dates, pup dates, the zoomie mode, um, fun things like that. And then topics around dog traveling. What's it like to travel with a dog? What's it like to be a first time dog

[00:18:45] Madison: owner? Also some q and as.

[00:18:48] Um, again, we're hoping to have some guests in the future, but for now we're gonna share a lot about like our life.

[00:18:57] Jess: Ziggy loves

[00:18:58] Madison: to give that hug. Yeah, we love it. Oh, oh, you are pooping. You wanna speak? Okay.

[00:19:04] Jess: Icky.

[00:19:04] Madison: We

[00:19:04] Jess: love you. I told you chaos. Ziggy is a very vocal Corgi. Mm-hmm. Loves to just

[00:19:13] Madison: talk with you

[00:19:14] Jess: and she gets excited.

[00:19:16] Madison: Maybe one day we'll just have them host a podcast. Yeah. Ka Ziggy.

[00:19:26] What do you have to say? Okay.

[00:19:29] Jess: To wrap that up, we have some fun ideas. We have dreams and goals, and just excited to get this going. Obviously, we had to get episode one out and hopefully you learned a little bit more about us and what this podcast is all about, and our second episode is available now. So go and listen to that.

[00:19:52] But that kind of closes our episode, one of the Yap corner.

[00:19:56] Madison: This has been such a long time coming. I'm super excited for this and to see where this grows and evolves to, uh, like Jess said, we don't really have this mapped out, so kind of hang along with us for the journey. Yeah, and to see more about the dogs.

[00:20:08] Jess: And again, you can find us at the Yap Corner pod on Instagram and TikTok and then on YouTube. And then you can listen to us. On the podcast, wherever you listen, Spotify, apple Podcasts. Leave us a review. Subscribe. Hopefully that's how other dog parents can find this, this podcast. And tune in just like you are and share this with a fellow dog lover.

[00:20:31] Well, thank you everyone. That wraps it up. Bye.
