[00:00:00] Jess (2): Welcome to the Yap Corner, A podcast for dog parents by dog parents.

[00:00:11] Madison: We're your hosts, Madison Bennett and Jess Berg. Two dog obsessed humans who know that life is just better with a pup. I'm Madison and my favorite coffee drink is a vanilla oat milk latte iced.

[00:00:24] Jess (2): And I'm Jess and I'm currently battling.

[00:00:26] My skin starting to feel like leather from my sunburn. That's not good. So that's gonna be fun. Anyways, this podcast is not your typical podcast on dog training manuals, food debates, none of that, just the everyday chaos, joy of life with a dog. So grab your pup, your beverage of choice, or whatever else you wanna snack on, and let's yap about it all.

[00:00:52] We are on site. St. Louis Post Chunk Fest. So we are at 10 30 at night here. So late, but we are just, well, eight 30

[00:01:03] Madison: in California though,

[00:01:04] Jess (2): right? I mean, but we also did a cross country road trip in two days. It's been crazy. A full day. Wow. That ac. Kicked in. We're dealing

[00:01:17] with a lot of

[00:01:18] Jess (2): environmental changes.

[00:01:21] This house is amazing. We're gonna be posting about it after we are no longer staying here because we are safe girls. Smart girls. Yeah. We'll get into that. But are we obviously, as you can see, probably some of their background. And for those who aren't watching and you're listening, we highly recommend that you go just check out what we're talking about, even if you wanna just scrub through to this part.

[00:01:48] And, uh, we're currently sitting in a room full of different dog portraits that are nailed to the wall, from the floor to the ceiling. And, uh, what are we looking at here? Not just

[00:02:01] Madison: that, but there's dogs. Figurines everywhere. In the bathroom, in the front living room, whatever it's called. Ba bedrooms, your room's, a poodle room

[00:02:15] Jess (2): and a kitchen.

[00:02:16] The kitchen. We'll definitely put some photos and video. Give a little tour to this episode. Yeah, it's a must See, it's wild. It is. Our husbands were not impressed. Walking in at. What time did they get in? One. Like 1:00 AM? Yeah, one. Am their, I mean, their jaw was dropped to the ground, but not for like a, whoa.

[00:02:41] Madison: Not the way we were dropped to the

[00:02:43] Jess (2): ground. We were like,

[00:02:44] wow, this is so cool. We love it. They were like, yeah. Be. Wow.

[00:02:50] Jess (2): Before we even walked in with all our stuff, we did a whole house tour with the video. Yeah. Which we should post that. Yeah, for sure.

[00:02:58] Madison: Okay. Anyways, but everything is dog. There's even treat dispensers for the dogs in the kitchen.

[00:03:03] Dog treat. Dog food. Dog treat. Dog. Water bowls, dog beds. They're really here for the

[00:03:08] dogs.

[00:03:09] Madison: They are. I think my favorite part though is they have records that are all dog themed, like Pit Bull. I don't remember the others, but, and the movies. And the movies

[00:03:19] Jess (2): and outside, they have their own. What do they call those?

[00:03:23] Like those doggy poop stations? Yeah, like a waste station. Yes. Poop bags. Yeah. That you see at the dog park. Yeah. They have one here in the backyard. It's crazy. Front yard. It's, yeah. Yeah. Amazing. We need that outta our, I I'm like, that's cool. And so I don't have to be

[00:03:35] Madison: like, well, I don't use poop bags at the house.

[00:03:38] I use, uh, scooper, but Yeah, same. It's still cool. It's still cool. Maybe we just put one dish for. Fun. Anyways, today has been a very long day. Very exciting day. Very fun for both of us. We both got to have fun with our businesses and do things at Chong Fest that we've never done

[00:03:58] Jess (2): before. And both doing it for the first time.

[00:04:00] Yeah, in the first like experience and environment and event. So we're gonna break that down with you. Recap Cho Fest, our experience there, but also recap. Our time as vendors. Mm-hmm. We both had very different activations on site. Our conversations with people,

[00:04:19] Madison: different locations. Yeah.

[00:04:22] Our experiences.

[00:04:24] Jess (2): People that

[00:04:24] we heard talk about the podcast. Yeah. A few people

[00:04:27] Madison: came up and said, oh, are you Madison? Are you Jess? Like, I've listened to your podcast. One guy even showed me like, look, I've, I've seen your podcast, or I have it downloaded, and I thought it was incredible. Like, didn't expect that. Yeah. So

[00:04:41] Jess (2): yeah, we should definitely dive into that.

[00:04:43] Yeah. So let's, uh, rewind a little bit on our road trip, which we did some content. That we'll kind of do like a vlog style content that's still different than our podcast stuff. Yeah. But I think it'll be good. We obviously talk each day that we drove and little recap and how it went, and so we'll get that posted.

[00:05:03] But I. We did it. We did it three drivers safely, two dogs at the end, U-Haul trailer, U-Haul trailer. Had some learning experiences of just not being delusional or tired. And

[00:05:17] Madison: maybe we don't push it too far.

[00:05:18] Jess (2): Yeah.

[00:05:19] Madison: But we made it alive in one piece. So we started out at 4:00 AM leaving from California, had the U-Haul all packed up the day before.

[00:05:29] Got loaded. Had to learn how to hook up the trailer. I think that was our first learning experience at 4:00 AM we all, all three of us girls, our friend Hannah and us, figured it out together essentially, and, and got that all hooked up and, and took off on the road like four 30 sharp and drove from.

[00:05:49] California through Arizona. We had quite a few stops. I think the best stop was the gas station on the border of California and Arizona. So we pulled to this gas station. I'm like, oh, just, you know, we're in the middle of the desert. I should probably just get some gas while we pull over and, and take the dogs to the pet relief area.

[00:06:13] And we pull up and I'm like, wait. Gas is $8 and 30 cents. There's literally no way, but like, am I going crazy? Is this normal? Like, and I run over to the girls and I'm like, Hey. Gas is $8 and 30 cents, and they're like, what? And I'm like, yeah, no. Literally it says $8 and 30 cents. Meanwhile, I still grabbed some four gallon, four gallons of gas.

[00:06:39] To be clear, that was

[00:06:39] Jess (2): $40.

[00:06:40] Madison: $40 for four gallons while Jess is taking the dogs to the pet relief area.

[00:06:46] Jess (2): Yeah, as we talked about on our travel episode of just some tips and things that we do on road trips. So we find those pet relief areas. I think we forgot to mention that not all of them are the best.

[00:06:58] Yeah, and we'll definitely take you on a journey. This one was, I mean, it was a lack of pet relief area, really. Just a sign and a board with some like scratched off lettering, fire ants, sketchy fire ants on the ground, glass broken everywhere. A sign that says leashed dogs only. And it's, I don't know, like three by three feet of.

[00:07:21] Dirt and rocks, you know, whatever. Yeah, the dogs were great. Like they're easy. They just went to the bathroom, which was fine, but I was like, okay. Onto the next.

[00:07:31] Madison: Yeah. I think my favorite part though was the sign on the window to the gas station that was like, we understand our prices are high. Our overhead is high.

[00:07:42] We are a hundred miles into the desert. If you don't like it, you don't have to be a customer. Thanks for supporting our family or something like that. And I was like, okay, well at least they know and they're trying to warn us like, well, they probably get it all the time. Yeah. And it was, again, one of those things that I'm like, am I going crazy or is this actually the price?

[00:08:03] So

[00:08:04] Jess (2): moved on? Whatever. It was fine. It was, it was fine. It was a story to tell and then onto, I don't know, not so much adventurous stuff for the next, a lot of naps,

[00:08:14] Madison: and not by the driver, let me be clear. Rotating drivers, rotating drivers. We stopped quite a few times at more gas stations. We did stop at a Love's Again, had a dog, right?

[00:08:28] Dog body

[00:08:29] Jess (2): area, and it was like dog park. It was massive. Huge, but. It was all rocks. Yeah. Apollo was not having the rocks. He was like,

[00:08:39] literally like, how do I stop step

[00:08:42] Madison: in this? He loves to like kick back too when he, right. When he goes to the bathroom, can't

[00:08:46] kick those rocks.

[00:08:47] Madison: He

[00:08:47] cannot kick those back. You know

[00:08:49] Jess (2): when people are like, go kick rocks.

[00:08:51] Madison: Yeah. He's like,

[00:08:52] Jess (2): he's like, I can't. No, I don't like, so anyways, oh, they did have a little turf area. A strip. A strip of turf. And then someone stopped Madison to take a photo of the Corgi. Yeah, we're like at the car. We're like, where is Madison? And we look back and it's a stranger taking your photo.

[00:09:12] Madison: Might be that photo.

[00:09:13] Yeah. And again, it was like maybe 12 hours into a road trip. Not feeling the best, but

[00:09:21] Jess (2): having a breed like corgis, that actually isn't like a. A weird question that we, we get that question all the time. Can I take a picture of your dog? Mm-hmm. Can I take a picture of your dog all time? So I'm, I'm used to it.

[00:09:36] I get it. I mean, if I'm in going out in a public area or traveling, I'm getting it at least once in that time. Yeah. And that

[00:09:42] Madison: woman was like, oh, my best friend has a Corgi. I think she, I think that was what it was. Not maybe her sister, but. Anyways. She's like, my best friend has a Corgi. I wanna take a photo and show her.

[00:09:55] And that comes up a lot. It's not even just the person that likes Corgis. They know somebody that loves Corgis. So they're like, can I take a photo? I'm like, sure. But I don't know if I was in that photo and I was probably like not having it. So I'm sorry to whoever that was, but I think they still loved the, yeah, I'm sure they got a cute photo of Apollo and Ziggy.

[00:10:17] Yeah,

[00:10:18] Jess (2): after that, more driving, more driving, snacking. A lot of farmland, a lot of nothing. We get to nighttime. I think we just make it long story short of just with the overall of we learned that make sure you exit at like a well lit public. Multiple gas stations, fast food places like where there's people movement we pull.

[00:10:45] Don't make pull,

[00:10:46] Madison: don't make fast decisions and be like, I need to pull over unless it's emergency. Like obviously it was an emergency pull over by all means, but

[00:10:54] Jess (2): we thought our trailer lights weren't on and so we pulled over in an exit that was like off to like a frontage road. Which then led us to a journey driving through a puddle and then potentially a

[00:11:06] storm sewer drain.

[00:11:08] We still don't know. We thought it was a,

[00:11:11] Jess (2): yeah, like a bridge tunnel thing that we drove through. Yeah. And after we shared our experience with a handful of people, they started to say, are you sure you didn't just drive through a storm drain? Yeah. And now we're like, huh? Yeah. Yeah.

[00:11:28] Still don't know. But I, because it was like, think they might be right, a dirt, a dirt road and like bumpy dirt road with bats, graffiti and,

[00:11:38] Jess (2): and we got out and we're like, oh, stars.

[00:11:40] We're like, that's beautiful. Mine. It's so pretty out here. Like you don't get this in

[00:11:43] California, in the city. This is why our

[00:11:45] Madison: husbands are like, we cannot leave you two alone together. Yeah.

[00:11:51] Jess (2): And then we finished, we finished that and we got to our hotel. 2:00 AM took a glorified nap,

[00:11:56] Madison: but forgot to call the hotel ahead of time to tell 'em one travel to don't up our room.

[00:12:01] If you're arriving late, call the hotel. Make sure that they know you're arriving late. 'cause they were like, Hey, yeah, that's okay. As long as you get there before 3:00 AM US thinking, oh yeah, no problem. It's only gonna be there at one. Forgot about the time change 2:00 AM. But we made it and we made it. We got there like, yeah, two 20 made it took a power nap, essentially.

[00:12:22] Four hours of sleep and got back on the road at 6:00 AM

[00:12:26] Jess (2): Mm. But Ziggy chugged tons of water. I mean like three bottles of water ran. I don't know why. Then her and Apollo ran down the stairs. We went potty, ran back up three steps in, yak it up. It was, it was a mess. We took a shower and nap. Yeah. The last thing you wanna hear is.

[00:12:44] We all know dog, parents all know that sound when your dog is

[00:12:49] Madison: yaking, all turn out to be fine. Get back in the car at 6:00 AM keep on driving and made it to sunny St. Louis. And I say sunny because apparently we just missed a tornado by an hour or two. Yeah, we were just, which is devastating. I'm sorry to all those families that Yeah, we heard that.

[00:13:11] Jess (2): St. Louis had never experienced, they hadn't experienced like a deadly tornado since

[00:13:18] the

[00:13:18] Jess (2): fifties. Yeah, something like

[00:13:19] that. Yeah.

[00:13:20] Jess (2): So just a bummer. Obviously, we're thankful for our safe, like the safety and. The weather turning out better. And so then we got here. We got, we wanted some St. Louis Barbecue. Yeah.

[00:13:35] So we went and picked it up, some takeout. This is my

[00:13:36] Madison: first time here in St. Louis too.

[00:13:39] Jess (2): Really?

[00:13:39] Madison: Short trip. Very short. Had to come

[00:13:41] Jess (2): back. Yeah. So we did, you know, we got some barbecue. We drove through, like you saw the arch from the car arch. Yeah.

[00:13:48] Madison: I still needed to know the history, so

[00:13:50] Jess (2): Oh yeah.

[00:13:52] Just, just doesn't know exactly.

[00:13:54] So, no. I said

[00:13:55] Jess (2): something about the gateway in Mississippi River. The river. I know. It's something like that. Yeah. Then we came here, we settled, like got all settled, got ready packed and you went to bed and I was like, uh, I just gotta wait. Barely. I gotta wait up for the guys. So they came from the airport together to the Airbnb, and I was watching them and opened the door, make sure that they came to the right house.

[00:14:22] Really? You watching the door to see the reaction? Oh, yeah. And I wanted, and I did record it, but like it was not, it is not, not what you wanted. Yeah. They were like, you are banned from choosing Airbnbs for group trips. You're done. No more. This is terrifying and it's not terrifying, but it's not,

[00:14:44] Madison: it's, you're so dramatic.

[00:14:46] This is a cool experience

[00:14:48] Jess (2): and I'm, I'm still like shocked that no one in the group chat for Chalk Fest with like all the corgis because everyone was looking at Airbnbs hotels, places to stay, and no one came across this place. I don't know why.

[00:15:03] Madison: Yeah. Dog friendly, clearly.

[00:15:05] Jess (2): Yeah. We have a Corgi behind Madison.

[00:15:08] Madison: We try to count the number of corgis and dogs and.

[00:15:12] Jess (2): So many different kinds. We definitely think these ones in the living room especially are little AI generated, which like no hate. I still think they're really cool. Yeah. But you're kind of,

[00:15:24] Madison: maybe we should pose some and be like AI or not. Oh, that would be a good idea.

[00:15:29] And find out what people think. Because I still, I have a hard time seeing. Some differences in ai. I'm like, obviously there's really creative people and artwork that just make some weird stuff like this one right behind us. Is it AI or is it just weird? Oh

[00:15:46] Jess (2): yes. Yeah, we should definitely, and we could like put up on the story and like do a poll.

[00:15:51] AI or not, but maybe, we'll, AI are just weird, but we'll do like a fun, A fun name for it. Yeah. Okay. Fun. Anyways. Anyways. Okay. That's our segment for today. Yeah, that's our opening. Now let's dive into Chunk Fest today. Crazy. The long Day we had

[00:16:08] Madison: hosted by Ham and Maxine. Him, me and Fiona. And Maxine. Yep.

[00:16:13] Jess (2): Brian and Chris.

[00:16:14] Brian

[00:16:14] Madison: and Chris. Shout out to, to you guys and their entire

[00:16:16] Jess (2): team and everyone at Bar. Bar, Barquet, Barquet. Yes. It looks like I, I wanna say bark, but

[00:16:22] Madison: we asked Chris. Yep. From the events director and he said

[00:16:25] Jess (2): Barquet. Got it. Clarification. Mm-hmm. So we roll up, I don't know, before 8:00 AM we unload our trailer.

[00:16:33] You were inside.

[00:16:34] Mm-hmm.

[00:16:35] Jess (2): I was outside. It was very windy. Mm-hmm. In the morning I was, we were battling the wind and I was getting stressed. Events are always unpredictable. Yeah. And like your stress is gonna go up and down and, and at the end of the day I'm like, it's gonna be okay. We're gonna be fine. You just, I wanna put on a good event and make sure everything's in order.

[00:16:55] And when everyone arrives, we have. Everything's set to go. Mm-hmm. So you just adjust.

[00:17:00] Madison: You learn that and you never know what to expect. Like we didn't know there was a tornado until yesterday. And so thankfully the location was fine and they adjusted, but I thought it was gonna be like 90 degrees. So I was worried.

[00:17:14] I thought we were gonna be outside. Didn't, wasn't really sure about that. Right. You were worried, you're like, I don't have weights for my tent. Yeah. And then they're like, oh, you're inside. I'm like, fantastic. This is. It's great for us. But I mean, your location was set up outside closer to the the Corgi races track or Corgi?

[00:17:32] Not Corgi. Not Corgi races. These are doggy races. Well, corgi and dog races.

[00:17:37] Jess (2): Yeah. Obviously Corgis were a majority of it. Some chunks, yeah. Yeah. But we had small dogs, medium dogs. Big dogs, and that was a lot of fun. Mm-hmm. So we'll get into that more. Um, but how did your setup go inside? Yeah, I

[00:17:51] Madison: mean, this was our first event, so we were kind of putting things together just let's.

[00:17:58] Let's set it up and see how it looks. We did record a time lap, so I'll post that later. Um, tell us where, what's your Instagram handle for at Stumpy Bean Coffee.

[00:18:07] Yeah. Perfect.

[00:18:08] Madison: So you'll find that there. I'll probably post it on Apollo and gems too, because we did have a lot of corgis come by that knew Apollo or Apollo's hanging out with us.

[00:18:18] So they got to meet him. But yeah, we put up the tent. Um, we had a few neighbors by us and Apollo loved too. I'll talk about that later. We put up the tent and then we put up our sign, which was great. And we had these, um, displays that we painted orange. 'cause our color primary color is orange, as you can tell.

[00:18:39] It's hat like your hat and your logo everywhere. We love orange. Yeah. Um, and set up the coffee display. Some of our bags were kind of shaken up a little bit from the drive. I mean, we did haul coffee all the way from California, so that was fun. But I mean, people were like, oh, that's cool. Like you're out from all the way from California, and they're like, I think you win the award for, for this traveled.

[00:19:05] But yeah, we got all

[00:19:06] Jess (2): set up and it went very great. There were two sessions. Uh, 10 to one and a three to six. That two hour break in between. So, so needed

[00:19:18] Madison: good.

[00:19:19] Jess (2): Yeah. Okay. To like, so needed to decompress. We got food, we talked, chatted. I barely saw you all for session. I mean, we were

[00:19:28] Madison: both very busy,

[00:19:29] Jess (2): so I think I ran into, I wanted to for sure get some photos of you guys at the booth and.

[00:19:34] See what the inside looked like. But then it was, yeah, time. Time just went fast.

[00:19:40] Madison: Yeah. It was interesting 'cause we saw a lot of the people coming in and then you guys saw like them interacting and doing other stuff. Like there was so many things going on though. There was, um, like I said, there was a lot of vendors.

[00:19:54] They even had CH Fest beer, which was really cool. Wait,

[00:19:58] Jess (2): I think

[00:19:58] Madison: we have some, we do. Check it out. This is the CH Fest. Light lager from four hands brewing.

[00:20:07] Jess (2): Like how fun is that?

[00:20:09] Madison: Yeah, this is the CH Fest Light Lager from Four Hands Brewing Co.

[00:20:13] Jess (2): And it's like so cute. There's Hammy and Maxine. Ugh. Hold it up.

[00:20:19] Yeah, so the camera can see.

[00:20:21] Madison: It's amazing. And they have a, it was a luau theme today, so this is all luau themed, and I'm like, Ugh, I just want this every day in my fridge. Not like I drink beer every day, but I want cute beer like that every day in my fridge.

[00:20:34] Jess (2): Yeah, that's cute. Okay, I'm gonna put it back.

[00:20:37] Madison: So aside from the beer they had.

[00:20:40] A lot of vendors. Like I said, I even got this cute little welded permanent jewelry with a little paw print on it, as you'll see. That's so cute. So cute. I was like, I love it. I love gold and jewelry and whatever. Wait, wasn't there a tattoo

[00:20:54] Jess (2): artist on site?

[00:20:56] Madison: Did I miss that? There's a caricature artist. I swear.

[00:20:59] I

[00:21:00] Jess (2): thought that there were like. Pop up tattoos, but, oh, I could be wrong.

[00:21:03] Madison: Oh, I saw a kid with like a ta. I mean, he, it must have been a temporary tattoo 'cause he was like seven years old.

[00:21:09] Jess (2): Yeah. So, and they had, um, a bowl you could ride. Like, did they have a bull? Yes. See, I'm telling you, I didn't see a lot of the

[00:21:16] Madison: outside.

[00:21:17] Yeah. My nephews went on it. Did they ride? Oh, they also had a dunk tank. Mm-hmm. And a Ferris wheel. So it was like a whole carnival party. Bubbles foam. A ball pit. A huge ball pit. Like more balls than you've ever seen.

[00:21:29] Jess (2): Funny thing about the foam. Where it was positioned and located, it was out in front of us in the open space.

[00:21:36] But when the big wind gusts came up, the foam went up in the air coming right at us. We had to swat away the foam. You're getting foamed to the face, Ziggy's dodging left and right. I, I mean, it was a whole scene, especially in the beginning when no one was there.

[00:21:53] Madison: Yeah. And they had just turned it on and they're like setting it up, practicing or whatever, and it was

[00:21:56] Jess (2): super windy in the morning.

[00:21:58] We were like, no, this is. This is not gonna work. Luckily it, the wind died down and it was, we had no issues. It was just that morning. Whew. Crazy. There was also

[00:22:11] Madison: a photographer, like a dog photographer, and I got the cutest photo of Apollo. He's not very good with like. Uh, cameras or lights or anything.

[00:22:23] Anything that moves he does not like. Um, and so I was like, good luck. Like you can use 'em as a test, you know? And she's throwing treats at him and he's like, dodging him or whatever. And she got this one. I have to post it, but his tongue was sideways. He like, looked like crazy. The treats coming at him. And I'm like, how the heck did you nail that?

[00:22:43] So good. So good. It was so good. But tell us about your. Little activation is a, we had not little, like it was a

[00:22:52] Jess (2): main event. Oh, it, it was awesome. Yeah. We had races starting at 10, like 45 minutes to an hour into the session for both the morning and the afternoon. Got everyone checked in. Came to our booth.

[00:23:07] We had a whole designated space kind of behind that DJ area, and we had our starting line and our finish. We had bleachers, we had chairs and tables, so everyone came and crowded and boarded around the track. Such a vibe, somewhat energy. Everyone was excited. You know, when I was like, welcome to the little Stumps racing Chunk Fest, corgi Dog Races.

[00:23:31] Everyone's like, whoa. It was, I was not expecting that at all. So people, you didn't watch the

[00:23:36] Madison: videos.

[00:23:37] Jess (2): People were all in and all about it. And we had, gosh, session one, I think we had 14, 15 heats.

[00:23:44] Madison: Wow.

[00:23:45] Jess (2): And so the winner of each heat then advanced it onto our semi-finals, and we had two heats of those. And then advanced to our championship race.

[00:23:55] In between that, we had small, medium, and large dog races, so we had a pug, dachshunds, Aussies doodles. A whippet, all these different dogs running or not running. It was hilarious. The big dogs. Oh gosh, they were fast. Yeah. It was just like a few steps for them.

[00:24:17] Madison: Really. Yeah. Compared

[00:24:18] Jess (2): to a little dog. And so we did that, like obviously for both session one and session two, we had the DJ hyping up the events.

[00:24:27] Uh, Brian and Chris came over for the championship race, getting everyone crowded. The main event. We had Aries as our back to back champion for session one and session two. Aries taking home the

[00:24:41] Madison: gold.

[00:24:41] Jess (2): He is just fast. He was laser focused and then his siblings in session one, his sibling tails took second, and uh, we had cashmere finished third.

[00:24:53] And then in session two we had Aries as our champion, Athena second and Bacon third. Oh, nice. So it was Bacon's fast. He's fast.

[00:25:05] Yeah.

[00:25:05] Jess (2): And he is like, wants to get to the end. Yeah. So it was a go back to mom. Mm-hmm. It was a great, great day and we were able to finish all the races with over an hour left into the se like hour with an hour left of the session so everyone could enjoy the event the day we could just chat.

[00:25:24] Yeah. Hang out with people. Tons of people. People bought our merch. We had hats, t-shirts, hoodies, stickers. Little stones racing flag.

[00:25:34] Madison: Cute.

[00:25:35] Jess (2): They were hats. Everyone was obsessed with the hats. Hat's are great. Maybe 'cause it was like sunny and hot and they wanted shade. I

[00:25:41] Madison: mean, but also as a corgi on it. It's really cute logo.

[00:25:44] So the bleachers were super cute though.

[00:25:47] Jess (2): Yes. And they had great

[00:25:48] Madison: signage and um, I think you need the bleachers at future events that are like. Non obviously NFL or other sports teams.

[00:25:57] Jess (2): Yeah, totally. There's a, they have their own bleachers. It totally set a really cool space mm-hmm. For the races itself. And there's some cool sponsors too.

[00:26:07] Yep. Marathon sponsored, the little Stuss racing, Chung Fest races. And they were on site for the first session and their minds were blown away. They were not expecting the turnout. The dedication, the commitment, the hype, the excitement. It's a whole thing. And then like obviously we're like super interested in little stems racing as a company in general.

[00:26:31] Mm-hmm. Of what we do and how we do it and who we work with and working with different brands and organizations and sponsorships. So a lot of, we met so many cool people. Mm-hmm. We met someone from the Cardinals. We met like the owners of Barquet and their connections with Kansas City and Oklahoma City.

[00:26:50] It's just, it's cool and amazing and I don't even know the words for it. When you feel the community and the connection that

[00:27:00] Madison: Space Barque, shout out to the owner. I know he was there and walking around. He even came over to our tent, said Hi. That place is so cool. I, I understand and see why I was voted Number one.

[00:27:11] Best Dog bar. Best dog venue. I, sorry, I'm not gonna get that right, but it. For like in America for a few years, but that place is so cool. I'm like, how do we bring this to San Diego? Like it's a space. I know, but there has to be a big space like somewhere. Yeah. We can demolish some buildings to put this.

[00:27:33] Yes, happily.

[00:27:35] Jess (2): It would be great. Yeah. I mean you had multiple, I think they had like five bars on site. Mm-hmm. They could go food. The service was great. They had the

[00:27:42] Madison: dog tenders that were walking around. Shout out them. They were on it. They were on it cleaning up. Pee. I

[00:27:49] Jess (2): mean, and

[00:27:50] Madison: poop.

[00:27:51] Jess (2): And poop and like, like legit cleaning it with like a brush and scrub.

[00:27:54] No, I was thorough. Impressed. They had whole like mops I would bring out and like, you know, cleaning solution.

[00:27:59] Madison: Mm-hmm. It was amazing. And they would like make sure, monitor if there were any fights or chaos. Luckily there were not a lot because they were, they were on it. Yeah. Shout out to those dog vendors.

[00:28:09] And even if there were,

[00:28:09] Jess (2): which happens, like that's natural and you have, as we talked, right. Responsible dog owners taking care of it. And then the bartenders. Wait, bark tenders? Dog

[00:28:20] Madison: tenders.

[00:28:21] Jess (2): Dog tenders. Yeah. Cute.

[00:28:23] Madison: Yeah.

[00:28:23] Jess (2): The dog tenders were around. Uh. Obviously be support there. Yeah, they had like vests

[00:28:28] Madison: on that said dog tender on the back and it was a really cute, really cool idea.

[00:28:32] Just all around, well done. They even had like a small dog area. I mean it was different 'cause this was an event, but the signage there was great. They had like a, I think it was Time out First aid station. Um, they also had like grooming. They had a human only area for food and drinks, which is great. Yeah.

[00:28:56] So you can go there if you just wanna hang out with dogs, but then, or don't

[00:28:59] Jess (2): wanna be bothered when you're eating. Yeah, because they did have like an outside

[00:29:03] Madison: eating space too. Yeah. And then they had a small dog area. There was like under 25 pounds I think. Get check out the whole place, but. So many amazing things.

[00:29:12] So I'm like just telling you, Barquet, come to San Diego or Southern California. Come out west

[00:29:17] Jess (2): out west.

[00:29:17] Madison: Come out

[00:29:17] Jess (2): west, we need you. So the races were great. It was fun already, you know, just brainstorming what other ideas, like Chris and Brian were over the moon with it, which was so cool to mm-hmm. Like interact and talk with them and it was the first time I met Chris in person and they're just full of energy.

[00:29:37] Very nice. Are very like, clearly love. Like bringing events and community together like this. Mm-hmm.

[00:29:44] Madison: Yeah. They're all about the fun, which I love. 'cause we love dog events that are fun and we're there for it. It's not that serious. So they're, it's fun. Yeah. They're not, it's not that serious. But they, they definitely bring the energy, they definitely have the dedication that's needed to keep moving this forward.

[00:30:01] And I'm like so excited for, to see what's next. So yeah, session

[00:30:04] Jess (2): two. The Chacha slide broke out and we were all like, I went out on the dance floor. Yeah. And everyone was out there. They had the dogs in the backpack. Ziggy was walking around. Ziggy actually went up on the stage for the DJ and then stood in front of like the speakers, which probably was not good.

[00:30:23] And quickly she realized like, oh, uh, I don't like this. No, it's too loud. This is loud. So then she like went down the ramp and like came onto the dance floor.

[00:30:31] Madison: So I have a question for you. If somebody was interested in doing a dog race, do you have any tips or

[00:30:38] Jess (2): recommendations or thoughts like, well, we had a handful of people come up who were connected to different organizations, teams, companies, you name it, who were wanting to bring an event like this.

[00:30:50] Even Barque being like, we need to do more of this. This is a great setup. This is a great thing going, it's so fun, it's awesome. So we gave him. You know our card to find us@littlestemsracing.com is our website. We have all our contact information on there. info@littlestemsracing.com is our email, obviously our social media at Little Stems racing.

[00:31:12] Reach out to us, send us a message, email, and we basically told them like we serve as your liaison from any of the logistics planning, organizing support. You name it, like we're gonna meet you where you're at, and provide services to have a successful, fun, fun, engaging event. And I've been a part of them.

[00:31:31] They're very fun.

[00:31:32] Madison: So much fun. And you're on top of it. You really are. Oh yeah. You make sure you get

[00:31:35] Jess (2): your emails out, you get experience and a lot of learning along the way and working with great partners and teams and their staffs. It's all, it just gets better. So that's little stumps, man. It was great.

[00:31:50] Tips. We're excited

[00:31:51] Madison: on. If you have a dog that wants to race, like Oh yes. Yeah, we got not, not that. I'm not asking that too, but I'm saying like, yes,

[00:31:57] Jess (2): we got that question a ton because obviously people were coming from all over. Mm-hmm. People came from all different states flying, driving, so many Everywhere.

[00:32:06] Yes. Everywhere.

[00:32:07] Yeah.

[00:32:07] Jess (2): So they were asking if we had events in different locations, how do they hear about him? And I said, go to our website. We have a nude, uh, nudes.

[00:32:18] Madison: Nudes in it. We have nude. No, no, no, we do not.

[00:32:22] Jess (2): Corgis are nude. Okay. That's weird. No, we're done. That's still weird. Okay. We're done. It's, um, it's late and we're canceled.

[00:32:30] We're our, my mind is mush at this point anyways. Told them to go to our website. We have a newsletter called the Little Stump Speedster, so you can sign up for that. And anytime we have an application for an opening on an event, we let that community know. We post on our social media and there's an application form and.

[00:32:51] They sign up there, we do some selections working with teams, organizations, and tons of other folks, and we get our Corgi selected for the race. Yeah, so always advise them, follow us on social media, but not always corgis

[00:33:04] Madison: like this event had other dogs go. True. And

[00:33:06] Jess (2): I mean, this was our first event. Took, put, put your dog in there.

[00:33:07] Even our first event with the dogs. So we're excited to explore those as well. So social media, our news, our speedster newsletter, lots of, and that's how you can hear about it. It's amazing. Yeah. Okay, stumpy. Let's talk about Stumpy bean. Stuy Bean. It is

[00:33:22] Madison: your first event. First event first in real

[00:33:25] life.

[00:33:26] Madison: Yeah.

[00:33:27] And it's the first of like many, coming up, many where you have back to life. What did you learn? Oh my gosh, so much. Stumpy bean coffee. We sell whole beans and. Ground coffee package. We ship nationwide. So a lot of people are asking us, oh, where are you from? Like, how did you get here? Are you local? We're like, no, we, we drove all the way from California.

[00:33:46] They're like, whoa, that's crazy. But also they're like, okay, that's great. Like we can buy online. Yeah, and I was like. Yep. Stumpy bean coffee.com. Find us online. Well, we have so many exciting flavors. They're all either Corgi or dog theme. So some of our favorites, um, and the customer's favorites honestly, are the Bark and Bean, which is a Costa Rican single origin medium roast coffee.

[00:34:11] People love that. They love to play on the name too. But I was so surprised 'cause our shortened Stout was a major hit. We sold out of it pretty quickly. It's a whiskey barrel aged coffee that's also medium roast and people were just loving it. Especially the dog dads, they're like whiskey. Anytime or like a, somebody would come up and be like, I think my husband would love this and, and buy it.

[00:34:35] So that was. Super exciting to kinda see and feel out what are the favorites. So that one, bark and Bean, and then Apollo's Blend, which we have Apollo, like I said, he, he came with us today. We also have a Gemini blend. Uh, that's definitely a darker roast, so. Tougher on the crowd if some people are, don't like a dark roast, but Paula's bun is a light roast, so people love that as well.

[00:34:58] Um, decaf coffee, not a major hit, you know, but we still have it available for those that love the taste of coffee and, and don't want the caffeine. But today we also launched our royalty line. So of course 'cause corgis are royal. What? What a great name. What a great line. So that's a new collection that we're gonna be launching online on Wednesday.

[00:35:22] Um, but oh wait, so you're saying. It was everyone exclusive. Everyone bought it today.

[00:35:27] Jess (2): It's

[00:35:27] Madison: not even out. I'm saying it was exclusive to this event. Very fun. Yeah. So people are coming and they're like, oh, where do you find this? I'm like, well, you're the first, um, to the market here with us. And that was super fun to see because I, we were getting a lot of customers that were like, Hey, I don't drink coffee, but I'll share this with somebody.

[00:35:45] And, and so we thought, you know, let's add some tea. Um, so our, our most popular there was. The Corgi Peach, of course, which is a peach flavored tea. All of our teas are loose leaf tea. Um, and they'll be available online on Wednesday, so that's gonna be really exciting. I think people are gonna love that. But also our English breakfast, like English breakfast.

[00:36:08] Amazing. Um, we'll also have a Jasmine Jubilee. You're hearing it here first. We'll also have a mango mutt. So that's a mango tea. And. Um, Berry Regal. That one was available today as well. That one's a caffeine free and people love that.

[00:36:24] Jess (2): Well, this episode's dropping on Tuesday. I know. So you're saying Wednesday.

[00:36:28] So everyone's getting the exclusive right now. Exclusive on what's coming and that peach one, I feel like if people don't know with Corgis Peach. Kind of, you know, talk about that.

[00:36:39] Madison: Yeah. So Corgi Peach, uh, there was some people that got it right away and some that didn't. So I kind of had to explain, and I was like, corgi peach.

[00:36:48] So corgis butts, people love Corgi butts and they look like little peaches. And so I was like, okay, how do I not name this Corgi but tea? Because I don't know if people would buy corny, but tea. I mean, I might, but, and then I was like, corgi, Momo. People don't always know what Momo is. Which is,

[00:37:09] Jess (2): yeah. Momo is also like a term for like a corgis butt, but, and that,

[00:37:13] Madison: I think that's like a Japanese term.

[00:37:15] Mm-hmm. I could be wrong. Yeah.

[00:37:16] Mm-hmm.

[00:37:17] Madison: Um, so then I was like, corgi peach. It's a peach flavor tea. It's, it looks

[00:37:21] Jess (2): like a peach. We got this well and ch fest, little chunk, chunk fest. You know, they've got that peach in their logo, so it's perfect. Yeah. People loved

[00:37:30] Madison: it. We sold out of that so fast. I really, and, and this is where I like, have some learning things.

[00:37:36] I mean, we really. Again, our first event inventory, we were not sure. We were like, let's just go even kind of on everything. We brought some ground, but we brought minimal of that, which worked out, um, because a lot of people do drink whole bean coffee, which is great. There was a variety, but the, I was. Yeah.

[00:37:54] Shocked. Not shocked, but I was disappointed that I did not bring more of the Corgi peach tea. So that's a lesson learned for next time. Also, it's your first event. Yeah. Know you

[00:38:06] Jess (2): killed it though. I know. I not disappointed. I know. I am not disappointed. I know we're. You know, we're hard on ourselves. We wanna be the best.

[00:38:14] So I understand what you're saying, but girl, like how cool your first event is selling out of products.

[00:38:20] Madison: It was amazing. And it was amazing the conversations I had with people. So many people coming up, like I said, they were asking like, oh, are you are you have a resale store? You know you have a coffee shop?

[00:38:32] And I was like, no, but that's my dream. Like I. One to open a Corgi cafe. A Corgi cafe. Yeah. So I got this whole idea really, I guess I haven't really even talked about that, but we went to Barcelona, um, a few years ago, and there's a Corgi Cafe there, and literally there's little corgis running around and everything's corgi them, and the bathroom's corgis.

[00:38:57] It's a, it's like this house, but like a cafe and maybe a little more. Tasty, but just not the, yeah, not the coffee itself. Sure. But yeah, there, um, there's corgis everywhere and I was like, this is a dream. Like how do I make this a reality and have my corgis walking around? I love coffee so much and I love going places and trying new coffee.

[00:39:21] So hopefully one day after we make this successful online and selling coffee, that we'll be able to open a coffee shop. I love that that corgis and all dogs can come too, but it'll be Corgi themed for sure.

[00:39:34] Jess (2): Well, you're probably being very hard on yourself and, and, and I mean, I experiences, everyone experiences it where obviously you're stuck in your head, your own perspective, your own experiences, and it takes someone else to, I'm gonna tell you, it's gonna take someone else to tell you that.

[00:39:49] Like, that was amazing. That was cool. Your first event. And adjusting learning, like even your story about, oh, okay, people like didn't drink coffee. So how else can we serve, you know, people out there and provide like a fun product with our company Tea. Yeah. And look how great it did.

[00:40:09] Madison: The tea did so well. I was.

[00:40:11] I'm very proud and happy that we started offering a T line or will to the public on Wednesday. So I think people are gonna love that. Um, we even had some follow up customers purchase online after the event, which is, that was cool. Cool. At dinner. Cool to see when we

[00:40:26] Jess (2): were there. And you get an online order and it's local to the St.

[00:40:30] Louis area, obviously. Yeah. They came from Chong Fest. Amazing.

[00:40:35] Madison: And so we also have online, we have merch available, and we do have these hats. We have shirts. They say Stumpy bean coffee, and on the back say. Corgis Coffee, corgis coffee corgis. The only thing that goes through my mind. Corgis coffee. Corgis coffee.

[00:40:49] Perfect. Um, but we also have tote bags and other things, but we have these really adorable mugs. I think everyone can attest to them. They have a orange channel, like I said, we love the orange, orange inside. And then they have our Stumpy bean logo. And so we have one sitting out for people to see and everybody's like, oh, can I buy one of these?

[00:41:07] And I was like. Oh, we didn't bring them 'cause we weren't sure how to really safely transport them, and I didn't want them to break. And then that's inventory. So again, some learning things. But it's really exciting to see everybody so excited about the mugs and, and one of the people followed up and purchased online so

[00:41:27] Jess (2): Well, and when you say they have their, the logo on there, it's not the one that on your hat?

[00:41:31] Not this one, no. They, I mean it's that plus the corgis. The corgis, yeah. Which is so cute.

[00:41:36] Madison: And so we were like, oh, like. Well, how did you come up with, you know, the logo of the brand? And I'm like, well, I have corgis and, and the logo is Apollo and Gemini, which are my two corgis, and one of 'em is a black and white corgi, which a lot of people don't see a lot of cardigans or, or black and white corgis a lot.

[00:41:53] So that was really me, meaningful to me to add that part into our logo, into our brand. So yeah, next weekend we're doing Corgi Nationals gonna be selling not just. Bags, but we're also gonna be doing cold brew, which another learning curve. That'll be very exciting to be able to give people our product on site to taste.

[00:42:15] And then you have another one, and then we have another one the next weekend at, um, Huntington Beach at PCH. We're gonna be selling at, uh, be Hive Market There. So that'll be a completely different crowd. Both these events are obviously very quirky focused, but that one's going to be at just a maker's market.

[00:42:34] However, Huntington Beach is a very dog friendly city as we know, so I think we'll get a lot of different variety of customers and questions, and I'm really excited for that. I

[00:42:44] Jess (2): can't wait to hear your two weeks of.

[00:42:47] Madison: Yeah,

[00:42:47] Jess (2): events and new experiences,

[00:42:49] Madison: but I really just have to give a shout out to all the people that came by the booth today and, and gave me words of encouragement.

[00:42:56] I had so many people be like, I can't wait to see you do well. This is gonna go so far. You have a cute brand. I love it so much. And it honestly, that was the best part. O even overselling coffee. I was like, people believe in us. So it's not just me making this up in my head and, and being obsessed with coffee and corgis.

[00:43:15] We got this so.

[00:43:16] Jess (2): Yeah, you're like bringing chills, just like that statement alone. Just like they believe in us and Yeah. I think my favorite part was, I mean, we didn't even see each other. Mm-hmm. Like throughout the time, and even if we did, we were like something, one of us was doing something.

[00:43:35] Yeah.

[00:43:36] Jess (2): But it was like when we got back to the house and we parked the car and we just like give each other a high five.

[00:43:42] Mm-hmm. And we hug and like jump around and we're like. I can't believe we just did that. Yeah.

[00:43:48] Madison: We came on and people think we're crazy. Like so many people were like, oh my gosh, you're gonna drive all the way to St. Louis for the Chong Fest. Like, what does that, you know, what does that mean? And I'm like, it means way more than that.

[00:44:00] It's my best friend and I and our other friend driving to St. Louis, first of all, spending time together. And then we get to do this incredible event with so many cool people. We met so many people that we've been following online or have followed us. I'm

[00:44:15] Jess (2): just so proud of you and the coolness of today.

[00:44:22] Like, I don't know if many, I, I don't even, no many people don't experience doing their dreams, their passions, things that they like, really love and care and have fun doing. With their best friend.

[00:44:36] Madison: You're proud of me, but I'm freaking proud of you.

[00:44:38] Jess (2): Like so many people

[00:44:40] Madison: going up to you and be like, Jess, this is so cool, like you're doing so well.

[00:44:43] This is amazing how you're running this company. Like. Girl, you're kicking butt. Like

[00:44:49] Jess (2): you're kicking butt. You're

[00:44:51] Madison: We're kicking butt. We're kicking Butt is cringe, but we're so cute. I love you. Yeah, but I, I'm really, I'm just really happy though that you were there for my first event. I knew you were gonna be sad to miss because next week was supposed to be my first event, but then we made this week work and you're like, I'm like, get to be there for your first event.

[00:45:10] Oh my gosh. Which is so cool. Yeah. I'm so happy I was able to be there.

[00:45:14] Jess (2): I'm,

[00:45:15] Madison: I'm happy you're there too.

[00:45:16] Jess (2): They mean a lot. All your support. So yeah. No, this whole trip means so much. So much more. So much more. Let's talk about the Yap corner, because we had some fun things happen. Yeah. On this event. People coming up to us asking questions.

[00:45:30] You gotta tell the story of someone coming up to your booth looking for our pins. Yeah. So we posted on our story,

[00:45:38] Madison: uh, what was that like the day, like the night before? Yeah, the night before. And we had been working on these really cute pins. Jess put in a lot of hard work, and then I put in my other hard work.

[00:45:48] It was an idea that came to me in the middle of the night.

[00:45:50] Jess (2): I was like, we need something. Yeah. Oh yeah. The best ideas to me come in the middle of the night. I, I work my best. My creative juices are like. Midnight to like 2:00 AM and that's when I'm like my downfall.

[00:46:04] Madison: So that's where we don't align.

[00:46:06] Jess (2): So I ordered the button pin maker, and the next day I texted you and I was like, I need these printed.

[00:46:12] Madison: Yeah, no, you FaceTimed me, me. And you're like, look what I did. And I was like, you, you're, you FaceTime me, but I didn't pick up on FaceTime. And, and then you're like, can you FaceTime? I'm like, yeah, because I can always FaceTime and you show me. And I was like. How the heck did you think of this? And she's like, ah, I went into this, you know, creative mode and they weren't the cutest phrases like, bombastic side eye, or my, my dads do it best.

[00:46:38] My favorite, um, my love language is treats

[00:46:41] Jess (2): same. Or, sorry, I'm running late. My da, my dog looks sad. Yeah, I'm here. I'm just here for the dogs,

[00:46:48] Madison: my dog's, my show. Um, my dog chauffeur. I, I work hard for my dog to have a good life. So many things. So we posted these on our story that we would be giving 'em out at Chong Fest, and we had like a little paper with it that had a, you know, QRA code to our, our channel, whatnot.

[00:47:06] So when we get the event started, people came up to my booth and was like. Where can I find the pin? And I was like, the pins. We forgot about the pins. Tell my husband like, go, go find Jess and get the pins. She has the pins. He's what pins? And he

[00:47:19] Jess (2): came up to me and of like, of course my mind is all over the place.

[00:47:23] We're like right at the start of the event. Yeah. And I'm like, pins. What? And, and he's like the, the Yap corner pins. And I was like, oh my gosh, we forgot about them. 'cause we had this big box. Yeah. So I, you know, he took a whole bunch and he took a whole bunch.

[00:47:40] Madison: I was like, go get as many as you can. He brings them back and I, I set 'em out on our table and, and the person that was asking about them came and got a pin.

[00:47:48] And I was like, yeah, take whichever one you want. And then people started coming up to us and we were like. Can I buy one of these? And I was like, no, take one. They're like, oh my gosh, this is so fun. Right?

[00:47:58] Jess (2): Yeah. People were like, wait, I can just take it. I was like, take two. Yeah, take three. Yeah. Yes. Give it to a friend.

[00:48:03] Yes, share it.

[00:48:03] Madison: But people came up and they were like, oh, what? What is, and I would talk about my coffee and then I would talk about the podcast and I was like, Hey, like check this out, you know? People here love dogs. And that's all we talk about is we loved our dogs. And I was like, when you're outside, go find Jess who's doing little sumps racing.

[00:48:22] That's who I'm doing the podcast with. And they're like, no way. That's so cool. So it's really cool to be able to be like, my friend is also here running another business, but we have this podcast together and And then

[00:48:34] Jess (2): they

[00:48:34] Madison: would come find

[00:48:34] Jess (2): you. Yeah. A couple things that were just like, some of my favorite moments was one when your husband's like.

[00:48:42] It's working. I believe in it. Now I see it and I'm here for it. Especially when he got asked where the pin was. Yeah. And he's like, no way. Yeah. They, these girls have. Fans, I dunno.

[00:48:58] No, no,

[00:48:59] Madison: no. Not fans. We're gonna need a name eventually for our group or our hype squad or, but

[00:49:06] Jess (2): yeah, whatever, you know?

[00:49:07] Madison: Yeah. We, there are listeners out there, listeners, and it is great

[00:49:10] Jess (2): that in real life,

[00:49:12] Madison: well interacting and somebody even came up and showed me, they're like, look, I have your podcast downloaded.
