[00:00:00] Jess: Welcome to the Yap Corner, A podcast for dog parents by dog parents.
[00:00:11] Madison: We're your hosts, Madison Bennett and Jess Ramberg. Two dog obsessed humans who know that life is just better with a pup. I'm Madison. My favorite adult beverage is an espresso martini, and my lifelong goal is to one day own a farm so that my dogs can roam with chickens and many horses.
[00:00:28] Jess: And I'm Jess, currently obsessed with almond cookies from Trader Joe's, and I'm a big believer in dessert before dinner. This isn't your typical podcast, no training manuals or food debates, just real talk about the everyday chaos and joy of life with dogs. So grab your beverage of choice and let's yap about it all.
[00:00:45] We're gonna head back into pup dates and go back and forth with the pup dates happening in our lives. Ziggy had her first race of the year at the University of Washington. We were up there for the Corgi halftime race for their spring football game. We had 10 corgis run. It was a packed, uh, stadium with students.
[00:01:05] They were excited, they were loud, they were cheering. Gigi won. So shout out Gigi. Shout out Gigi, and hopefully we'll be back for the UW race. And how did Ziggy finish? Ziggy took second in her heat. Good job. She had the 360 cam on her back and the footage was. Classic for Ziggy going all around the field, back and forth, saying hi to all the dogs, and then turbo speed straight down the line and to the finish line.
[00:01:33] So she had fun. Good job, Ziggy. For our
[00:01:35] Madison: pup dates, we did a doc diving competition. Wow. Yeah. Apollo jumped seven feet, win one inch. So that is from the dock to the water with their butt landing in the water. So that's how they measure that. And Gemini did eight feet, six inches. What? Yeah.
[00:01:56] Jess: Farther than Apollo.
[00:01:57] Yeah. She's a long girl. So it kind of makes sense. What are you tossing into the water for them to jump
[00:02:02] Madison: at? So I have this foam ball that we throw and it has a rubber. Thing. I don't know what you exactly call it, but on the end and we throw that, they grab the ball. Most of the dogs actually catch it in the air, but we're not there yet.
[00:02:18] We'll get there one day. They were the only corgis participating. It was really funny to watch 'cause there was a lot of whippets and Belgians and goldens. They're the only corgis, but
[00:02:28] Jess: they did a good job. Very fun. Yeah. Those are fun pup dates for you. Now let's jump into some submissions we've gotten from the Y It Out Forum.
[00:02:37] As we've mentioned previously, we've talked about the Y It Out forum that you can find in our link in bio on our Instagram at the Yap Corner Pod. We also have the form linked in our show notes. So head over there if you have any thoughts, comments, stories you wanna share, things you wanna vent, anything.
[00:02:56] So we're excited to kind of dive into some of our submissions here if you wanna. Kick us off with
[00:03:02] Madison: During episode two, we had talked a lot about traveling with our pets. And during that episode we had asked for people's feedback, comments, ideas, anything they wanted to share, um, but also creators to follow.
[00:03:16] And so we got a lot of creators recommended to us to follow and their Instagram accounts are amazing. Some of those we wanted to shadow here are. B, the Chi, which is a chihuahua that lives a very luxurious life in Paris and France, Paris, France, everywhere, traveling around the world. Loki, uh, it's me, Kago.
[00:03:39] Little p and w pups away on Earth adventuring with Nala, Ellie, golden Life, Brody, that dude and hello, it's Jasper. Amazing. So give them a follow if you're not
[00:03:52] Jess: already. Yeah, shout out to all those creators and again, we are. Loving everyone, just giving us recommendations of people to follow other social accounts.
[00:04:01] We'll keep shouting 'em out as they come in. So in addition to
[00:04:03] Madison: those creators and recommendations, we got some questions in the form and so we wanted to answer those with you all here today. Um, the first question we actually got is how do the dogs stay quiet? So it's a very great question. As you know, we have corgis.
[00:04:23] They're notorious for being barks and being loud, so people are probably very shocked to see that they are. Not barking, especially right now, but they do. But they do.
[00:04:34] Jess: It's either edited out or we have to take a break and figure out what's going on. Nope.
[00:04:40] Madison: Ziggy's moving on. She said,
[00:04:41] Jess: what did you say about me?
[00:04:43] Yeah. She's like, I'm gonna keep my space.
[00:04:45] Madison: But I think one of the main things we do is feed them before too. Kind of keeps them quiet. Tum full. But they definitely bark
[00:04:55] Jess: and I'm sure you hear the barks in the background plenty. I heard 'em in a couple episodes, so, okay. We got a question for you, Madison. Ooh.
[00:05:03] It says, I know you previously mentioned getting Gemini was sort of on the whim. We want to get a second dog but aren't completely sure how it will be. Do you have any advice? Great question.
[00:05:17] Madison: This was definitely something we were nervous about when we got Apollo. Every dog is different, so we really didn't know what to expect.
[00:05:24] I don't think I can give you a straightforward answer of what you can expect again, because your dog's different than mine and mine are different than yours. But what I would recommend is if you're getting another dog and you have the opportunity to bring your dog with you to meet that dog. That way you can kind of get a vibe, feel for how they feel with each other and see if that'll work out for you.
[00:05:47] Jess: When you brought Gemini home, obviously she was a puppy, but even now throughout the years. How has their behavior changed their play, how you feed them? Has any of that changed? There's definitely
[00:06:00] Madison: things I'm more aware of when it comes to Apollo and Gemini. They're very different dogs. They have similar things about both of 'em, but again, very different dogs.
[00:06:10] For example, Apollo has some food aggression, so we did meet with a trainer. I recommended trainer for everybody. Figuring out how to work your dogs with each other and give, give you some good advice. So how about, but now they're best friends. Yeah.
[00:06:24] Jess: How do they play together?
[00:06:25] Madison: They wrestle. People always ask me at the park or wherever we're out, they're always playing together, especially even at the beach.
[00:06:34] And they sound like they're like. Eating each other alive or attacking each other. I'm like, no, they're having fun. I promise. That's just how they play. It's kind of how Apollo and Ziggy used to play when they were younger. Gemini definitely has a lot more energy because she's younger and so Apollo gets a little annoyed sometimes.
[00:06:51] He's like, let me chill now. And, and so I, I keep them separated at times too, to, to give him space. So another question we received from the form is, do any of your dogs
[00:07:02] Jess: have siblings? Ooh. Wanna start? Good question. Ziggy was in a litter of two other puppies that we never met because when we went and picked her up, she was the only one left.
[00:07:13] So I don't know who those two pups are out there, so. So if you recognize Ziggy and your breeder was in Lakeside, California, give us a shout out. But we have met half siblings of Ziggy's Sandy. Our really good friend, Lexi and Sandy, unfortunately passed away, but we had a lot of fun memories and play dates and birthday parties with Sandy.
[00:07:35] They booked
[00:07:35] Madison: so much alike. It's crazy. They did.
[00:07:37] Jess: They did. They shared the same dad. And then there's also Mamba who's up in la I. Who is in the same litter as Sandy, so shares the same dad with Ziggy and then our friend Rebecca with Daisy from the same breeder. But no same parents. So that's been fun to meet some of the pups who are half siblings of Ziggy Do they have 23 in Me for dogs?
[00:07:59] Yes. And Bark is a popular brand where you can get DNA testing, health screening. And we did that with Ziggy. I should, it's been so long since I've looked on the app. It will give you a percentage of likelihood that they're related. And if that dog is also in the database, then you see them. And I have gotten notifications of new dogs in the database, so I should definitely look back to that and see, and see if I can get in contact with them.
[00:08:32] Madison: I'm so curious if you'd find any of them. I, I should do that for Apollo. Yeah. So on the sibling note, I guess Apollo came from Kansas. Like I had mentioned in the, I think it was in the first episode, we had talked about that. When I got him, I didn't know really anything about him. It was this vet that reached out to me on Facebook that had a client with puppies and needed homes.
[00:08:58] So that's really why I flew all the way out to Kansas. And when I got there, he showed up in a station wagon on a. Literally sitting on a bale of hay, and I just looked at this puppy like, oh my gosh, I'm gonna take you home. You're so cute. But since then, I never heard of. His siblings. I don't know any much about him.
[00:09:19] I could do them bark tests and see if there are any. I know there must be, because in the picture that the vet sent, there was three puppies, and that's all I know about them. But for Gemini, she actually has a Sister Kiwi that lives in Southern California. Have they met? They have met. So the breeder actually hosts pool parties.
[00:09:41] At our local pool where she'll invite some of the siblings or any of the dogs and other dogs, of course, but she's invited Kiwi and Gemini and Kiwi got to meet, you know, it was so cute. They look so much alike and we'll have to share a picture.
[00:09:57] Jess: I wonder if they remember each other.
[00:10:00] Madison: I think she remembered her mom more, which is, her name's Doja, which is really cute.
[00:10:06] And she looks just like her, except Gemini is definitely smaller. I think she was the rent of the group or something. 'cause she's definitely smaller for, especially for Cardigan.
[00:10:15] Jess: I forget Ziggy's parents' names. But the dad was red and white just like her. And the mom was a try with like a mostly black and white.
[00:10:24] That's funny. She's not try at all. No. So when we picked her up as a puppy. When you take 'em away from their mom's, I know the breeder would put like a little pillow with the mom's fur in it and we would put that in a crate just to kind of comfort Ziggy. And it was all like black hair. Oh, that's funny. I know.
[00:10:44] I never knew that. And so she obviously takes, after her dad,
[00:10:47] Madison: they actually sent me home with a platypus toy for Gemini, and I still have it to this day. So in addition to. The questions. We also got some comments on the Yap It Out form. We're gonna read some of those here're with you today. I'm gonna pull out my phone so I can read them.
[00:11:04] Same. This was so fun to listen to. Can't wait for more episodes. Will you ever bring on guests? That would be so cool. Yes. That is a question.
[00:11:13] Jess: A comment in a question. Yeah. But absolutely. Yeah,
[00:11:16] Madison: definitely.
[00:11:17] Jess: And if you wanna be a guest. Let us know from Kate. No questions, but loved the episode. I traveled with my dog for the first time and the information you shared was helpful.
[00:11:27] You love hearing that. I'll say thanks, Kate. Yeah, thanks Kate.
[00:11:31] Madison: That's awesome. And lastly, from Emily as a dog parent, I was excited for this. So fun, especially love the part where Ziggy talked into the microphone.
[00:11:42] Jess: Ziggy, she loves to talk. She's very vocal, corgi, and if you get her excited, she makes. All kinds of unique sounds.
[00:11:49] She especially
[00:11:50] Madison: loves humans, so anytime somebody comes to pet her, she's like, what is she like? I'm so sorry, Ziggy. You don't sound like that. It
[00:12:06] Jess: sounds kind
[00:12:06] Madison: of. That was, that was
[00:12:07] Jess: pretty good. That was same. Yeah. I think maybe we put him aside. We'll put you and Ziggy side by side and see. Okay. Who Ziggy who did the better?
[00:12:13] You wanna
[00:12:14] Madison: have a Yap it out? What would we call that if we ever had that? Like a,
[00:12:17] Jess: a Yap. Face
[00:12:18] off.
[00:12:18] Madison: A yap. Yap. Off.
[00:12:20] Jess: A yap off. Ooh, Ziggy. She's sleeping. She's
[00:12:24] Madison: sleeping. She does not care.
[00:12:27] Jess: Well, thank you everyone for those kind words and those comment. I mean, even the first couple episodes, all the comments and.
[00:12:34] Messages, and we're gonna do some ref. We're gonna do some reflection on the episode, but it's been
[00:12:40] Madison: fun. We even got a lot of dms on TikTok and on Instagram. So thank you all for the sweet words. This really means a lot.
[00:12:46] Jess: If you have anything that you wanna share, vent, tell us a story, give us shout out. Fill it out in the Y It Out forum.
[00:12:53] You can find that in our Lincoln bio on Instagram and in our show notes. It's game time
[00:13:00] zooming. Oh my God. I was like, no, it's not.
[00:13:04] Jess: Yes, it is game time. It's always game time. Madison, with the games. I love a game.
[00:13:11] Madison: As you all might know by now, we're gonna play Zoomie mode, which you make. Oh, we've, we've played this before.
[00:13:16] Yeah. Perfect. Been, I was gonna say, everybody should be familiar with this. Yes. Let's play Zoomie mode. So we will be asking some rapid fire questions to each other.
[00:13:26] Jess: Should you start first or should I? You
[00:13:28] Madison: go for
[00:13:29] Jess: it. What are your go-to nicknames for the dogs? Apollo, we call him shnu Dude.
[00:13:37] Madison: Yep. And Bubs and Gemini is Sch Slim.
[00:13:43] Gem Schlemm, slim Gemini. I can't,
[00:13:49] I'm not kidding, because she's a, I love hearing people's nickname. She's a long girl sole.
[00:13:55] Madison: There's this really funny commercial that I'm not gonna get into, but it's really weird with this gum and they like pull it and we just think of Gemini and it's like.
[00:14:06] Jess: Long dog. Okay.
[00:14:09] I mean, I see it. I get it. It's a choice. It's a choice.
[00:14:15] Madison: Uh, Jimmy though, that's my, like Jimmy is a, the out and about. If people hear me call her Schlep Gem, they're like, what the heck? So Jimmy and Bubs,
[00:14:27] Jess: what?
[00:14:28] Madison: That's not rapid fire at all. I'm sorry.
[00:14:31] Jess: What are your favorite treats to spoil them with any bone or
[00:14:36] Madison: yak?
[00:14:36] Jess: Chew. And what is the most chewed up item in your house?
[00:14:40] Madison: They're not big chewers, thankfully. But any toy we go through, any toy with a squeaker, I've literally timed it, I think under 10 seconds. So if you have a toy out there that you think that my dogs would not chew through that has a squeaker, we'll take that bet.
[00:15:00] What is your favorite rainy day activity with Ziggy?
[00:15:03] Jess: We have this big window in our living room, and we push the couch up to it so Ziggy can look out and I'll open the shutters and she'll just stare. Watch the mailman go by. That's probably Ziggy's favorite rainy activity. Does Ziggy sleep in a human bed or a dog bed?
[00:15:17] She does not sleep in the human bed. She was traumatized as a puppy when my husband rolled over and accidentally squished her. So no more sleeping in the human bed. She goes down to her bed or under the bed. She'll start on the bed with us and we'll pet her. But the moment we shut the light off and it's bedtime, she'll go down the stairs and put herself to bed.
[00:15:39] But if we are traveling and it's just Ziggy and I. She'll sleep. I'll make a bed of the pillows next to me and she'll sleep right next to me on the pillows.
[00:15:48] Mm-hmm.
[00:15:48] Jess: That's so
[00:15:49] Madison: cute.
[00:15:50] Jess: And last
[00:15:51] Madison: question, what does she, what is the cutest thing Ziggy does when she wants attention?
[00:15:56] Jess: We call them neck hugs, and she'll come crawl up to you or next to you, or if you're laying down and she'll kind of hover over you and put her head on your neck and kind of like wiggle.
[00:16:08] So we say neck hugs. Give us neck hugs.
[00:16:11] That's so cute,
[00:16:12] Jess: Ziggy. I want a neck
[00:16:13] Madison: hug. She's like, no, I'm sleeping. No, leave me alone. We're now five episodes into this, which is crazy to think on. We wanted to take this time now to reflect on that. Kind of just chat through what it's been like for us and and our experience.
[00:16:30] Jess: I can't believe it's been a month since we launched this. What has been kind of the biggest surprise for you? Surprise.
[00:16:37] Madison: There's been a lot of surprises, if I'm honest. I think podcasting is a lot harder than people give credit for. There's so much that goes into it behind the scenes, and I know with your role and your previous, you know, with your job, you have a lot of experience with content development, but for me, that's not anything in my norm.
[00:17:01] So seeing all the behind the scenes that goes into this. Hats off to all of you podcast creators out there.
[00:17:07] Jess: There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes. I think for me, I've been so surprised with the tools and the technology that we've been able to use to help be productive, organize help on like the workload.
[00:17:20] The really cool programs and platforms to help us create content from these clips and put 'em together and push 'em out on social media. It's been fun to learn new, new skills. Yeah. What is your favorite thing that you've learned so far? I think we're still figuring out what that workflow is, and I think it will change all the time.
[00:17:40] But finding platforms where it will, you know, watch your video, help you develop, show notes, summaries, titles, give you ideas, and then also help you pick out some of the sound bites from your podcast and help share on social media. That has been a big, the biggest takeaway for me, I'd say
[00:18:03] Madison: too, coming from you, that means a lot because I.
[00:18:07] When I went into this, like I just said, you have experience. So I thought it was so cool to see you, like find new things and learn new stuff. I was like, ah, you know it all, but you know. But you don't. No. Like there's so much out there. You
[00:18:20] Jess: will never know it all. Yeah. And there will be people and programs and new things.
[00:18:26] That are better and bigger and more information
[00:18:31] Madison: because there's so many competing things too that, that are so similar. But there's little parts that are different. We've just been going with the flow, trying out other things, seeing what works, trying new. Platforms and switching from what we originally thought.
[00:18:45] Right?
[00:18:46] Jess: Yeah. What about some challenges? Our schedules are so busy. Mm-hmm. We're busy people. We are doing a ton. We go on trips for work. Personal and figuring out a schedule was difficult and I'm sure it's gonna change over time and we have to adjust as we've already adjusted filming on the go. Changing our scheduling for recording and dropping content, and we've worked, we've done a good job working through those challenges.
[00:19:16] Madison: I would agree the timing, the scheduling May has been a very, very busy month, I think. Not just in terms of launching a podcast. We had our businesses, we had our personalized, so many things we're juggling and trying to figure out. It's been great having a schedule for us, you know? We know when we're releasing, we know when we're filming, and then on top of that there's working on the notes and trying to figure all that out.
[00:19:44] So that definitely has been a challenge. I do think that's gonna get easier for us as time goes on, as we figure out more of a flow and a rhythm and figuring out all these new platforms and tools and things like that. So,
[00:19:56] Jess: although we do see each other a ton, being able to come and record and hang out and Ziggy play with the pups and we get to catch up in person.
[00:20:05] It's always fun. I think it's so
[00:20:06] Madison: funny that your hu, our husbands are just like, you guys just saw each other. Now you're on the phone, now you're FaceTiming, now you're texting. We're always in communication with each other, whether it's talking about this or just whatever's happening in our day. There's never enough Yap time,
[00:20:25] Jess: never enough.
[00:20:26] It's been such a fun month and it's gone by so fast, and the two of us, we love to just jump onto the next, and I think we've already thought of some fun ideas and new things we wanna try. Let's hold on that. We do have some
[00:20:40] Madison: very fun plans for the future that we'll talk about at the end of the episode.
[00:20:43] Perfect. We're gonna introduce a new segment called A Bone to Pick. Ooh, yeah. This will be a hot take or rant that we're going to Yap about. So my bone to pick is, I saw this article from Kinship Pets where they were discussing how it has become too normal or too even over-hyped to bring your dog places so people are bringing their dogs.
[00:21:11] Everywhere.
[00:21:11] Jess: I remember seeing this post and Kinship is a pet centric account, so you had a ton of people who were in favor of dog should be everywhere in the comments. You had people on both sides of the spectrum. Most of 'em I think saying, I will go to a business or a place that allows dogs over anything else.
[00:21:30] If I can bring my kid, why can't I bring my dog? Dogs are better than humans. A ton of responses like that. And you also had people on the side of. No dogs shouldn't be everywhere. I see both sides. Definitely. I do. What about you?
[00:21:46] Madison: I also see both sides. I think there's a time and a place for everything. Of course.
[00:21:50] For example, I won't bring my dog into a grocery store. However, service dogs do need to go into grocery stores, and I don't think this is about service dogs at all, but I think the people that are bringing their dogs, places where they shouldn't be. That the dogs might not be well trained or have irresponsible owners unfortunately put other dogs down or make them look bad.
[00:22:16] So then people don't want any dogs.
[00:22:18] Jess: It's that classic saying that one bad apple can spoil the bunch. You're gonna have that everywhere. And I think it comes down to the responsibility of the dog owners. I do agree that dogs shouldn't be everywhere. However, I think there are so many places that are now dog friendly in our society that we lean into, that we have fun.
[00:22:38] Our dogs can go out and enjoy fun activities with us. They can be part of everyday adventures, and there's a lot of fun and beauty that comes out of that. But unfortunately, you're gonna have. Dogs and dog owners that do ruin experiences for everyone. I think some things too that we forget
[00:22:59] Madison: are, there are reasons.
[00:23:02] Why people don't want dogs around. Some people are scared or allergic. Or allergic. I had a previous boss that actually when she was a little girl, she was attacked by a dog, and so she was always scared, which she did is she actually got a dog to help counteract that fear. That's not for everybody, of course, but that's where we have to remember as owners to not approach everybody with our dog.
[00:23:27] I remember when we were. First got the dogs and we were like, oh, they're so cute. Everybody wants to see them. Everybody wants to pet them. And I was like, why is this person not petting my dog? Like in all seriousness, I was curious why somebody wouldn't pet my dog. But then I remember there's people that are scared of dogs or just don't like dogs or allergic.
[00:23:46] So,
[00:23:47] Jess: and having that awareness is all the difference. And I think that is maturity in a dog owner. Because I have been in those places. Even with Ziggy, as friendly as she is, people will be scared or not interested and I recognize that immediately and take a step back, give space, because I also don't wanna put my dog in an an environment or situation where anyone else is uncomfortable, because dogs are good at sensing everything, all the emotions, the fear, the anxiety.
[00:24:16] So I don't wanna put Ziggy in that environment either. So I think, you know, there's. There's both sides to it that have to be respectful and understand and be responsible. I think
[00:24:29] Madison: that's a good point too, that maybe Ziggy doesn't need to be everywhere. Maybe our dogs don't need to be. For example, I mentioned Apollo has anxiety.
[00:24:37] He doesn't need to be everywhere. So if I put him in those uncomfortable situations, that's not fair to the people around or other dogs around, because now he might act out or do something. As owners, we have to remember that our dog doesn't need to go everywhere with us, even if we want them to.
[00:24:54] Jess: However, when I am sitting on a patio and my dog is doing perfectly fine, respecting her space, enjoying her time, being out and about with us, and I get people that give me the glare.
[00:25:08] Or, you know, speak under their breath and I can hear them talking about, Ugh, this dog, why is there a dog here? Those are the people. I'm like, really? My dog's doing nothing to bother you. She's not barking, she's not coming towards you. She's not intruding your space, mind your business.
[00:25:26] Madison: And I think that's like, you shouldn't go to a place if you don't, if you know it's dog friendly and you don't like dogs.
[00:25:34] I'm sorry. Don't go. That's where it gets tough, because I understand that somebody loves that restaurant. They wanna be eating their food or whatever without a dog. And I'm like, my dog's literally sitting here, fine. Not doing anything. I even thought it was funny. The place in Palm Springs, booze Hounds.
[00:25:53] It's a place that's like where humans bring their dogs. Oops. And there's all these rules on the site about your dogs can't sit in the chair, obviously. But then it was like, your dogs can't do this. Your dogs can't do that. And I was like, this whole place is centered around bringing your dogs. You would think the dogs have the seats and the humans sit on the ground,
[00:26:15] Jess: but I do love the rules and regulations.
[00:26:17] I think that's a great middle point for both sides of this argument. If you want to be in the space with your dog. Here are some rules, and if you cross those lines or can't correct the behavior, it's time to leave. I love that. But on the other side, if your dog can follow the rules, there's no issues and you're totally fine.
[00:26:41] Leave me be with my dog.
[00:26:43] Madison: I completely agree. I actually really appreciate some of those rules too, because it makes me feel more comfortable with my dog knowing that the owners are understanding that. We have our dogs, you're welcome. But if your dog starts chewing on the table or attacking another dog, it's time to go.
[00:27:03] All in, all it comes down to responsible ownership, training your dogs and
[00:27:08] Jess: letting us just live
[00:27:08] Madison: our life.
[00:27:09] Jess: And at the end of the day, for me, my dog lives one life. I wanna give it the best life and have the most experiences and have those experiences together. But I do agree with everything you said.
[00:27:19] Responsibility, respect. And have fun and we'll leave it at that. Yes. That was a good bone to pick.
[00:27:27] Madison: Yeah, can't wait for more. A lot of hot takes and rants out there. There are,
[00:27:32] Jess: if you've made it this far in the episode, we are now gonna jump into a little brainstorming session of a fun idea that we have for the end of the season of the Yap corner.
[00:27:42] So I'm gonna pull out our rough notes. Where any ideas that come to mind while we're recording or during our episodes, we're gonna add 'em into our rough notes here so we can keep 'em.
[00:27:55] That's super cute.
[00:27:55] Jess: When I saw it in the store, of course I saw the Corgi and the rough notes title. Thought it was perfect and said, you're coming home with me.
[00:28:05] Yeah. That's free money.
[00:28:06] Madison: Free money. And for those not watching it is a journal that we're gonna be writing in that is covered in different dogs. So super cute. Super fun. I love the
[00:28:18] Jess: idea. Any ideas we have, we're gonna jot them down. I'm gonna take some notes as we yap it out, but I guess we need to start with a name for the event.
[00:28:28] Hmm.
[00:28:29] Jess: What about the yappy hour? Maybe I feel like there's so many yappy hours out there and I don't think we really want like a happy hour vibe. We want a party. A party party. We love a party. Does Yap need to be in it? I think it would make sense. The Yap corner. The Yap
[00:28:57] Madison: corner beach
[00:28:57] Jess: party. There you go.
[00:29:00] Ooh, because we we're looking at some venues. Yeah. And one of them being on a beach. Yeah. I think it's called
[00:29:07] Madison: Monty's in Long Beach, maybe.
[00:29:10] Jess: Mm-hmm.
[00:29:12] Madison: I mean, there's plenty of dog beaches, but it definitely has to be dog friendly.
[00:29:15] Jess: Yes. Clearly big enough. A big enough space that we're not too crowded, and it's not a small space where it's not too intimate.
[00:29:23] A space that we can have a separate room for drinks and appetizers and food.
[00:29:28] Madison: Yeah.
[00:29:29] Jess: Desserts.
[00:29:29] Madison: Desserts. We need dessert.
[00:29:31] Jess: Ooh. Not only for the humans, but for the pups.
[00:29:33] Madison: I was
[00:29:33] Jess: gonna
[00:29:34] Madison: say we could do some, um, what do we call those? The little pupcakes? Pupcakes.
[00:29:41] Jess: Pupcakes. The cupcakes. Cupcakes. Oh yes. Yeah. Is that a, mm-hmm.
[00:29:45] Did I just make that up? No, that's, that's a thing. Hey Ziggy, and speaking of drinks. We need fun drinks with fun names for humans and dogs. Cocktails. Cocktails. Cocktails. Mocktails. Paw Tails. Paw tails. Hey. Yes. You know how the signature drinks have names? What about like for the dog punch
[00:30:11] Madison: P Paw pco PCO punch.
[00:30:15] Cute.
[00:30:16] Jess: Yeah.
[00:30:17] Madison: Pita Pita.
[00:30:24] Repress. I love an espresso martini.
[00:30:27] Madison: Yeah, I think I said that. Espresso. Pini. Espresso. Tini. Oh wait. P pini. Pini. A pini. Maybe a little cocktail for your doggies.
[00:30:36] Jess: Yeah.
[00:30:37] Madison: For the dogs. Bone broth, both. Bone broth, bone broth. Tini
[00:30:42] bone broth
[00:30:43] Madison: or bone broth something. Bone broth. Rita. Bone broth. Write it down. Oh yeah.
[00:30:48] I'm not writing anything down.
[00:30:51] Jess: We're gonna forget all this. Um,
[00:30:52] Madison: okay. Drinks Pagar Rita also, I don't know if we've met, said this, but we're looking at July, mid-July, mid-July. Peak summer. Peak summer should be warm. Southern California, so keep your weekends open. We will be looking at some dates soon. Dog friendly, obviously.
[00:31:17] To say bring your dogs. We'll also probably need a head count though, so we'll definitely do an RSVP
[00:31:23] Jess: list. Yeah, and, and if you don't have a dog that
[00:31:25] Madison: break or something,
[00:31:26] Jess: if you Yeah, we'll definitely do an RSVP list. And if you don't have a dog and you're a dog lover, you definitely can still come.
[00:31:35] Madison: I bet we'll get that a lot.
[00:31:36] Can I still come if I don't have a dog or don't? Can't bring my dog. Because like we said, not all dogs wanna go to all events either. So we're, but your dog can't go by themselves? No.
[00:31:47] Jess: The dog needs to be supervised. Yeah. Unless your dog can drive themselves there, which would be impressive. But never say Never.
[00:31:53] Never. Okay. So we're stuck on a name. We need to do more thinking of a name. Yeah. Any ideas out there? Any ideas? Let us know. I think we've got a good direction on the drinks or something. Oh yeah. The vibe, the drinks or the, the vibe. Dj, the beach. A DJ. Dj. They have dog friendly DJs out there that they advertise themselves as, I don't know what that means.
[00:32:17] Maybe they're at safe levels for the dog's ears. Maybe we'll make a silent disco
[00:32:23] Madison: where the dogs
[00:32:23] Jess: wear
[00:32:24] Madison: headphones and it's just them listening to like oof wolf,
[00:32:29] Jess: and then they're barking like crazy. Yeah. I mean, it sounds fun. Yeah.
[00:32:33] Madison: Never say never.
[00:32:35] Jess: That's our life. We're used to it. Yeah. Okay, so event name, we need that.
[00:32:42] We need a lock in an official date.
[00:32:44] Madison: Mm-hmm.
[00:32:45] Jess: And venue.
[00:32:47] Madison: Venue. This is gonna be like our end of season party and a season beach party, or most likely outdoors 'cause it's summer and we have the dogs has to be dog friendly. So we'll do some research.
[00:33:05] Jess: We'll have what activities game. Madison with the games.
[00:33:10] Definitely a game. Little competition. Some prizes, maybe a dog race maybe. I think we have to see what venue we end up with.
[00:33:19] Madison: True. Good point.
[00:33:21] Jess: Merch. Merch. Stickers. Stick.
[00:33:24] Madison: Socks.
[00:33:25] Jess: Socks.
[00:33:26] Madison: We love socks.
[00:33:27] Jess: And we can wear merching socks. Crew neck. There's
[00:33:28] Madison: podcast.
[00:33:29] Jess: That'd be so cute. Yeah.
[00:33:31] Madison: I love a crew. Neck
[00:33:32] Jess: bandanas.
[00:33:33] For the dogs, bananas For the dogs, we need to have our logo, like customize the little details. I'm all about the details and the experience. I love events and my number one thing, prioritizing are the details. Jess loves planning events. She goes all out, all out, all in. I'm there, all of it, like I'm thinking custom napkins.
[00:33:57] Yeah. Custom stationary signage, a photo booth. Custom dog. Water bowls. Yes. Ooh, we need water for the dogs. Yeah, it's gonna be summer. It's gonna be hot.
[00:34:10] That would be really cute actually. Maybe a giveaway, a raffle, some. Yes. Prizes,
[00:34:16] Jess: giveaway,
[00:34:16] raffles. I think all of that, but definitely merch
[00:34:21] Madison: hats. If we didn't mention hats.
[00:34:23] I love hats.
[00:34:24] Jess: Hats, socks, crew necks, dog bandanas. Some coozies
[00:34:29] Madison: for your
[00:34:29] Jess: drinks. Yes. We need to find some fun brands that will partner with us. Mm-hmm. And help make this come to life. Yeah, definitely. Any ideas out there, send them our way. Put 'em in the Yapp It Out forum, DM us. We want all the ideas, all the help.
[00:34:46] We also want, you know, we wanna make this event fun for everyone and for people that attend as well. So advice, tips. Ideas. We are here for them. Maybe agility, race or agility event. Maybe we could do that. I have some stuff. Yeah. We've got,
[00:35:03] Madison: we've
[00:35:03] Jess: got
[00:35:03] Madison: the
[00:35:03] Jess: equipment. We've
[00:35:04] Madison: got the equipment,
[00:35:05] Jess: but I think it'd be fun.
[00:35:06] Some sort of activation. Mm-hmm. That's dog centric. Dog focused, not um, bean bags though,
[00:35:15] Madison: you know, what do they call it? Corn hole. Because the dog dogs go crazy for them. Our dogs go after the ping pong balls, ping pong and uh, pool tables.
[00:35:26] Yeah,
[00:35:26] Madison: all of it. To recap, we have a TV on a name. Don't lay my hand.
[00:35:33] Jess: No, we have no name.
[00:35:36] We have no name yet. Well
[00:35:39] Madison: maybe yappy our beach party. The Yap. Corner, the Yap corner beach party. Okay. Oh, thinking like beach party vibe, like. Think grease. Think.
[00:35:51] Jess: I think, yeah. I think we can narrow down to that is the vibe aesthetic we wanna go.
[00:35:56] Mm-hmm.
[00:35:56] Jess: So we have that. Like we said, we love a party beach.
[00:35:59] We want it to be a party
[00:36:01] Madison: beachy summer with decorations Of course. Jess will go all out. You should have seen this girl at my batch. She just kept bringing out more decor. My friends were like, what's happening? We had to
[00:36:14] Jess: set agenda and like set goals that we needed to hit for decor. It was an agenda. For an
[00:36:19] Madison: agenda.
[00:36:19] Mm-hmm.
[00:36:19] Jess: Yeah. It was. Well, and you now have that machine that we can do custom cutouts. Oh, I
[00:36:26] Madison: love making stuff. Stickers.
[00:36:27] Jess: Yes. Yep. We are. Yes. Stickers is a must. Our logo everywhere.
[00:36:31] Madison: Everywhere. Okay. But yeah, we can make cups, we can make all that stuff. So again, to recap, we have TBD on name completely, but Midsummer July Beach Party.
[00:36:44] Aesthetics with Drinks, apps, food. Dog friendly. Dog
[00:36:49] friendly, DJ.
[00:36:51] Madison: You already said that. I didn't say dj. Oh, dj. Definitely DJ and an RSVP list. But again, if you know anybody or have ideas to share, this will be so fun.
[00:37:04] Jess: It will be the highlight of the summer. Yeah.
[00:37:06] Madison: Everybody's gonna be yapping about it.
[00:37:09] Jess: Hey, there you go.
[00:37:09] We need like a fun slogan for it. Yeah.
[00:37:12] We'll have a, a song. Maybe we need a theme song. It's probably too much for us to do like a live recording there.
[00:37:19] Jess: Mm, no,
[00:37:20] no, no. We're gonna be so distracted.
[00:37:22] Jess: We're just gonna wanna be running around. We need like, the dogs, we need a photographer, a videographer to capture all the moments.
[00:37:29] We do know a lot of people. All the content. Yes, definitely. And we'll be doing, I'm, I'm sure we'll capture a ton of our own content, like,
[00:37:36] Madison: um, a backdrop too.
[00:37:38] Jess: We need
[00:37:38] Madison: something like, um, yeah, like a
[00:37:39] Jess: photo booth of sorts. Mm-hmm. Yeah, one of those like
[00:37:42] Madison: 360 cameras. Wait, don't they have those now though, for dogs?
[00:37:47] Or is that, am I making that up? Like a photo booth size for dogs?
[00:37:51] Jess: Like the dog glam cam? Yeah, I bet they do. Yeah. Okay.
[00:37:57] We're thinking big,
[00:37:59] Madison: bold, big summer beach party.
[00:38:02] Jess: I think we have a really good start on ideas. Mm-hmm. And vision. Maybe we need to even put like a Pinterest board together.
[00:38:10] Madison: Ooh. I love a Pinterest board.
[00:38:12] Jess: Yeah.
[00:38:13] Madison: Yeah. Agree.
[00:38:14] Jess: I think that's a good idea. Okay,
[00:38:16] Madison: so next step. Pinterest board.
[00:38:18] Jess: Yes, because we have, I mean, not a ton of time No, but it's okay. We
[00:38:23] Madison: love to challenge ourselves.
[00:38:24] Jess: Yeah. We're up for a challenge and we're gonna make this happen.
[00:38:28] Madison: This is a thing.
[00:38:29] Jess: Yeah, it's this is a thing. It is not a maybe. It is a yes, it is happening.
[00:38:35] Save your weekends in July. mid-July, we'll lock down
[00:38:39] Madison: a date soon.
[00:38:40] Jess: Yes,
[00:38:40] Madison: for sure.
[00:38:41] Jess: This is kind of a soft launch. Yeah.
[00:38:44] Madison: So if you made it this far, you've got the insider scoop. So we're making this happen. In our next episode, we're going to be discussing more dog events, not just this event. This month has been a very busy month of events and there's gonna be so many more happening.
[00:39:00] Jess: I think that's a great next episode. Mm-hmm. Talking about dog events and not just in the us. But those happening internationally and around the world.
[00:39:10] Madison: Yeah. So if you have any ideas or know of any happening, please put it in the Yapp It Out form so we can chat about it on our next episode.
[00:39:18] Jess: And these could be events anywhere from parties, picnics, festivals, sports events, uh, competitions, you name it.
[00:39:28] I think there are so many out there that we don't even know. Yeah. So let us know what events you have out there. And we wanna cover them. We'll do some research and dive deep into all that's out there. We'll
[00:39:39] Madison: put a little calendar together too of these events and share with you all. So that's
[00:39:43] Jess: a great
[00:39:43] Madison: idea.
[00:39:43] Everyone
[00:39:44] can
[00:39:44] Madison: see that. Alright, that's it for today's episode of the Yap Corner. We really wanna thank everybody for all your kind words, dms. It really means so much to us. It's
[00:39:53] Jess: been fun reading the things submitted in the app corner. We're so excited. It's just the beginning and there's so much more to come.
[00:40:02] And we get to do that together with you all. Yeah.
[00:40:04] Madison: So make sure to follow us if you don't already at the Yap Corner pod on Instagram and TikTok, as well as like, and subscribe to the podcast on YouTube, Spotify, apple, and wherever you get your podcast.
